Cleaning mask with Tergazyme

Post by ncgncg » Sun Feb 02, 2014 2:40 am

Has anyone tried cleaning CPAP masks with Tergazyme (a.k.a. Alconox 1304, the detergent ResMed recommends for hospital use)? I ordered a box on Amazon to give it a try because with regular dish soap I just can't seem to really get my nasal pillows clean: there's always some residual oily residue that isn't on a new one right out of the bag. I've used regular Alconox in the past when I worked in a lab, and the stuff really is magic. As far as I can tell, Tergazyme is basically like regular Alconox but with added enzymes to break down protein residue. I'll report back here once I get to try it.

But is it safe on silicone? Regular dish detergent, unless very mild and/or pure, is not, and the Alconox sounds quite heavy duty.

For those looking for a ready-made, tried and true solution, here is one:

Many of us use unscented baby wipes, dish soap, vinegar, or even boiling with soda.
Find what works for you.

Good old Dawn dishwashing liquid (the original blue version) works about as well as anything made.

1,000 animals concur! I'd be worried what chemicals I used near my personal air intake, I don't consider chemical products to be our friends, at least dish soap can be well rinsed out. Jim
