LF FFM (or hybrid) sans eye leaks

Post by SabrinaFaire » Wed Jan 22, 2014 7:43 am

I'm at the point where my insurance will pay for a new mask. Right now I use the Mirage Quattro which works mostly well, but I do get leaks into my eyes, which of course is annoying. Sometimes to the point where I've taken the mask off in the middle of the night while half asleep. Previously I used the Quattro FX which I had bigger leak issues with. So is there a mask that would work better? Or would a hybrid mask like the Liberty do the job? I've considered getting the Quartz eye shield, but since I'm up for a new mask, I figured I'd try that before dropping $50.

Before you give up on the Quattro, try this....When you put the mask on, move it about 1/4" lower on your nose to where your nose is wider. This will cause the lower part of the mask to ride on your chin rather than just below your lower lip. If this is comfortable, it may solve your "leak in the eyes" problem. Also, be sure you are following the proper procedure for putting the mask on.

Hybrid or padacheeks liner. The Respcare/Innomed hybrid stops at your nares, so no leaks at the eyes and padacheeks.com has liners for the Quattro that keep it from leaking into your eyes.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I always have ripped off a full face mask, the Quattro FX leaked like crazy for me.

I've had the hybrid for about a week. I haven't ripped it off at all but am getting some leak data, nothing that wakes me up though. So far I'm pretty happy with it.

I got the Resmed Mirage Liberty hybrid in part for this very reason.

It's quite finicky and doesn't fit all faces, whereas the Innomed is said to be more forgiving. The Innomed is indeed more configurable, but it didn't fit me as well as the Liberty.

So it's definitely worth a shot if the eye leaks are bothering you.

Thanks guys. I have an appt with my DME on Friday so I'll ask about the hybrids and other options. I hope something works b/c the eye thing drives me batty.

can I suggest that you try to adjust the Quattro knob to about 4-6? The concept is that the higher the number, the more pressure is applied to your chin and less pressure on your nose / eye area... If you adjust the knob down, you may be able to eliminate those nagging eye leaks.

Taming the mirage quattro guidance made my life with the mask a success.

good luck

Dave

FWIW, I tried really hard to get the Liberty to work. Never did. The Hybrid was much less finicky. Most nights I have virtually no leaks now with the Hybrid.

It's already set to the lowest possible setting.
