post nasal drip

Post by catbirdgirl » Tue Jan 14, 2014 11:28 am

I have been struggling, even when awake, with post nasal drip. This feeling of glop at the back of my throat. Constantly clearing my throat or feeling like I will choke. It makes sleeping with CPAP worse because it makes my airway feel bad and smaller. eating or drinking something clears it, but I need something to help me with it because it's driving me crazy. Any ideas? Gargling with salt water didn't help. I also have GERD but it's not bothering me right now.

I regard post nasal as front nasal and if it's rhinitis see this:

If it's bad I then skip CPAPing

Try these measures to relieve postnasal drip — when excess mucus accumulates in the back of your throat:

•Avoid common irritants such as cigarette smoke and sudden temperature changes.
•Drink plenty of water.
•Use a humidifier.
•Try nasal saline sprays or rinses.
. Limit caffeine consumption
Also try prescription nasal sprays (Flonase, Nasonex, Astepro, Atrovent)

Other causes: diseases that affect your ability to swallow, sinus infections, sinus polyps, and drug side effects.

I sometimes have a drip too. I think it's seasonal. I find that Sudafed, or a similar store brand helps.

I had lots of issues before CPAP. Now just a little wet drip. I was going to use a spray but did not like what I read. So just ran salt water through my nose with my nasal pot and will see how it goes tonight. I had a great sleep study and they gave me an old Dreamstation which I can Drive like a spaceship. Up my pressure to 7.5 from 7 prescribed and skip the ramping. Lowered the humidifier to lowest level because the hot plate stinks. Good night fellow travelers.
