dreams
Re: dreams
I have been on ASV for 3 months now, and am having many more dreams, especially in the hours before waking. I think this is a good sign.

Re: dreams
The increase in dreams happens to almost everyone when they are successfully using cpap to treat apnea. I think its because you spend more time in the REM sleep stage and that is where the dreams occur. To me, it's fascinating to see the little changes your body goes thru when you treat this disease and start to sleep "normal"

I wonder what's going on with me... just prior to testing, for a couple of months maybe, I had (for me) lots of vivid dreams, not something I'd otherwise had in decades. But now that I've been on Apap for years, I suppose I might dream sometimes, but have no memory of doing it.. does that mean I'm not getting REM sleep? My numbers are always very good (<1-2) and I feel ok, tho' never sleep more than 5-6+ hrs.

I feel that also... I think the only way to tell us is to buy that gizmo (has a head band-thang) that tells you how long you sleep in each stage. I think it called a Zeo or something.Julie wrote:I wonder what's going on with me... just prior to testing, for a couple of months maybe, I had (for me) lots of vivid dreams, not something I'd otherwise had in decades. I wonder the same thing. Since I started Cpap 12/12, I have not had a single dream. At least that I can recall, but my numbers are good. Hmmm...

Zeo's company is no more; I'm hoping that the Melon EEG comes in at a reasonable price,
as I don't really have faith in the motion evaluation gadgets (like Fitbit)

Re: dreams
Since a person can dream in almost any sleep stage, it doesn't "necessarily" mean they're experiencing more REM sleep. If you wake up and remember your dream, it may only mean that you were in a lighter stage of sleep. (REM is also a "lighter" sleep stage)
(Just look up some of rested gal's threads on "dreams and dreaming" and start reading)
If a person is using an APAP in a range of pressures, it's possible that the machine is sensing a breathing change during dreaming and bump up the pressure.......which MAY jolt the person out of that sleep stage.

Re: dreams
When I went for my titration study I dreamed all night. First time in a long time that I remember having such vivid dreams. One of the first things the tech said when she came in my room in the morning was to say how much I dreamed. I am getting set up tomorrow with my CPAP so will be interesting to see how much I start dreaming....

Re: dreams
Prior to xpapian therapy, my dreams were strings of brief, disconnected, turbulent action/adventure scenes, and were often icky/scary. The dreams were almost never pleasant (and I suspect, connected with adrenaline surges to help throttle my suffocating self awake due to undiagnosed OSA events.)
Once I began xpap, my dreams immediately became more user friendly, longer and interesting and enjoyable. I don't remember as many nowadays, as the they seem to end before my sleep cycle times out.
.Good dreams from xpap? Priceless!
