It seems Resmed is preffered over Respironics
At least in my community there are more DME's working with the ResMed brand over REspironics, I wanted a Resmed at first but chose Respironics because of the much cheaper price.
Which one is really more advanced, which one has a better history of experience, which one is sold the most?

I don't think anyone but the marketing and sales departments from both companies have an accurate answer to that question as to what market share they possess. And both companies have been selling these fancy air blowers long enough to know what they are doing in building them. And in 2014, pretty much everyone else does too. CPAPs are no longer a new technology.Ruinednose wrote:At least in my community there are more DME's working with the ResMed brand over REspironics, I wanted a Resmed at first but chose Respironics because of the much cheaper price.

And regardless, what does it matter? Some DMEs have deals with company X, Y, or Z and that's the product that they therefore push on patients. Doesn't mean that the machines are better or worse, it's just it is what it is. Would you say Budweiser is the best beer out there just because more ballparks sell it than any other brand?
You made a good choice, and all things being roughly equal, price is a definite factor choosing not just a machine, but also the masks and supplies that have to repeatedly be replaced afterwards.

In my opinion this is like a Ford vs Chevy, Toyota vs Honda argument. It all comes down to which one you like, which one has the features you require, and which one your preferred sleep doc is prescribing.
I was prescribed a PR System One so that's what I've always used. I purchased a PR System One as a backup machine as well.

Aren't they all made in China?

remember, the forums and dme's you see represent a very small percentage of overall users. for all we know, the best machine may be made in china, not for export.

Unless you have used both brands for quite a while you cannot really answer this. Most of us have used just one brand and know little about the other.

I've got both. As long as you get the correct full data models and don't get screwed with a "brick" model by the DME, I consider them roughly equivalent.
Either one has pluses and minuses. They mostly balance out for me.
I'm using my S9 machine rather than my PRS1. This is probably mostly because it seems easier and more gentle to breathe through. Overall, it's not a big preference, though.

Re: It seems Resmed is preffered over Respironics
I have been using Resmed for nearly 4 years--love it.
I bought the Intellipap because of the price, the 5 year warranty, and the inexpensive DC power option.
I was surprised that both machines feel nearly the same, the Intellipap being a shade noisier.
If I had no insurance, and didn't want a used machine, it would have been my primary machine.

Re: It seems Resmed is preffered over Respironics
I've used both extensively and I am a ResMed person. Both companies offer good machines with similar features, but the algorithms are a little different. I have a lower AHI with my resmed machine, so that is the machine I use. Others would find just the opposite. Fortunately, I have had a flexible DME over the years and had the opportunity to find the right machine for me.
