Best bed
Re: Best bed
The one next to a working XPAP system. Beds are totally subjective to the user. I like mine hard, cold, and maybe with the head end 4 inches higher. JimD john bishop wrote:What is the best bet for apnea. Im a big guy. Any sugestions would be appreciated.

Re: Best bed
The best bed for anyone is what works best for them, their body, etc.... what you should ask is what is the best pillow to get if you're wearing a mask, and that would be a Pap Pillow (just Google it) which many people here use to side sleep. No one can tell you what bed matters because it doesn't as long as it promotes comfortable sleep for you (and we're all very different!).
Re: Best bed
It has nothing to do with Apena, but I am a big guy with slight lower back issues - but for what it is worth I like my hybrid mattress (coil/memory foam). It has no cheap polyfoams - just some memory foam over a coil in coil system. Its a Serta Perfect Day Jubliance model. However. mattress selection is SO personal.
Re: Best bed
If I was in a position to, I would buy an adjustable bed because of my sinus issues. I sleep on a wedge but finding one that is comfortable is not the easiest thing in the world.

Re: Best bed
As every says this is a very personal choice. However, I found that for me, a small difference went a long way. A few years ago we went from a waterbed to a Sealy Radiance memory foam. My wife loved it, and I got by but found that as a side sleeper, and fairly heavy, my hip got sore and forced me to roll over more than I normally would have. Recently an insurance claim allowed us to upgrade and I went for the next model up (Inspiration) - the difference being one extra inch of the foam layer that gives the "plush" feel. (The deep support is essentially the same in most of the line.) This made all the difference in the world - now I sleep through two to three REM cycles (about 3-5 hours) without waking to roll over. And lower back morning stiffness is mostly gone. This upgrade was the best several hundred dollars I've spent since getting the APAP.

Re: Best bed
I love my Simmons beauty rest but thats my individual preference. There is no bed that is specific for sleep apnea. Your pillow is another story.
There are many pillows especially designed for sleep apnea.

Re: Best bed
We JUST bought a new bed frame and mattress. We got the hybrid mattress which is the very best of both worlds! It has individually wrapped coil springs inside wrapped in a memory foam gel material that is heavenly! Slept on it for five nights now and have napped several times. It is the most comfortable one we have ever had. Gave our only 3 year old pillow top to my daughter and her boyfriend. No more hip or back pain for either one of us. My husband loves it too and he is one that likes a hard mattress.

Re: Best bed
Oh as for special CPAP pillows - I tried a bunch of them and they were a waste of money for side sleepers. I finally got ahold of My Pillow. That's the name of it My Pillow. It's made here in the USA too - no China crap. It is washable and dry able too. Kind of expensive but it is well worth it for us CPAP side sleepers. I got the medium firmness but I got my hubby the firm one. It comes in all different sizes too. You can look on Amazon.com or go to Mypillow.com and I saved 20% with an online coupon. Hope this helps!

We tried out a Sleep Number bed at a hotel and did not see or feel a real difference in the mattress when changing the settings. You are one of the few that I have heard that actually like a Sleep Number.,

Re: Best bed
I currently have a coil spring mattress. I've had it for a couple years and it's starting to sag a bit in the middle, so I purchased a memory foam topper for it. Just extending the life of my current mattress for a while. Works pretty well and I was surprised how comfortable it is; even though it's just an inexpensive topper.
I think I'm sold on the hybrid mattress the next time I buy; memory foam over spring.

If you are willing to do some reading, I highly recommend the articles and forums at http://www.themattressunderground.com
Previous to reading The Mattress Underground I would have told you I was quite happy with a firm coil spring mattress and a basic foam pillow. Shortly after starting CPAP therapy I realized I was waking up sore around my hips. I sleep on my side, and with the untreated apneas, I was waking up a bit every few minutes, and moved around quite a bit. After starting on CPAP I was moving much less, and the firm mattress was not helping.
I had spent some nights in hotels on nice foam mattresses, and realized that while they were a bit different, I really liked the idea that they better cradled you than a coil spring mattress.
I could go on for pages, but I ended up with a good, firm coil spring mattress topped with a 3" latex foam topper. I also now have a taller latex foam pillow, which properly supports my head when sleeping on my side. This was a less expensive option than an all latex good quality mattress. Replacing the latex topper every few years will be much less expensive (and physically, less of a hassle) than replacing a mattress.
I bought my mattress here: http://www.originalmattress.com/orthopedic/overview
and my topper here: Info: http://arizonamattress.com Store link: http://www.mattresses.net/queen-talalay ... -sale.html
And my pillow here: http://www.amazon.com/Malouf-Natural-Ta ... low+malouf

Re: Best bed
We have a "Sleep Number" mattress on our boat and it works out fine. Light weight is a factor for us that would not apply for most people, but we also enjoy the ability to not only adjust each side individually, but adjust daily if desired. As much as we like it, however, it didn't make the short list when we got a new mattress recently.sleeplessinaz wrote:We tried out a Sleep Number bed at a hotel and did not see or feel a real difference in the mattress when changing the settings. Re: Best bed
Adjustable Sleep Number bed is worth considering, you can adjust the firmness, raise and lower both the head & foot area.
