And why is it important for us to know this?

You are probably opening your mouth when you sleep and swallowing air. Wear a chin strap to keep your mouth from falling open and try to get in the habit of
pressing your tongue flat behind your upper teeth. this should help.

I suffer the same thing (plus a horribly dry mouth), even with my mouth taped shut. I'm trying the Bi-level next. If that doesn't do it, I don't know what's next.

That is really the only negative I have found with the cpap so far, but I too have this problem. I did try extending my neck while sleeping like I heard someone on here suggest. I tipped my head back to open my airway like when you do CPR on someone. I woke up this morning with hardly any gas but the first 3 days of cpap I had terrible gurgling and growling noises in my stomach and it was pouched out and hard like a basketball. Nothing today so I think maybe the head tilting while I sleep helped. (I use a FFM) Maybe that would help you if you haven't tried it.

I find the only position that works for me is head turned to the side and chin tucked.

It doesn't get rid of it completely, but it helps.

I find I now get rid of the air pretty quickly after getting up in the morning, but it took a few months to get to that point.

I use an FFM and have this problem to some degree every night. Some mornings I look like I'm pregnant and it can be painful. Occasionally, I awake with nausea because of it. I use Gas-X or equivalent and it helps but I'd really like to know how to prevent the air from getting down there in the first place. My pressure is at 7.8, not high. I shudder to think of what it must be like for people with very high pressures. I'd inflate like a balloon. Neither of my sleep docs have had any useful suggestions for this problem. I don't think they view it as very important.

Slip a whoopee cushion on your back under your shirt at the next visit to your doctor then lean back in the chair at just the right time and he just might take you serious.

If I forget my probiotic---what I mean is, it doesn't have to be swallowed air.
Sometimes a toot is just a toot.

I'm quite proud of my new noises - my husband used to be the biggest farter in the house, now he has real competition, lol

I went for years without this problem, though lately it has been. When I get outta' bed, it sounds like machine guns are going off. I usually shake them of in a short period of time. I am silently proud of them also and I am definitely not worried about it.
