S9 VPAP humidifier compatability

Post by REMember » Fri Nov 29, 2013 12:05 pm

Greetings all

The H5i humidifier on my S9 VPAP has failed. Can the S9 VPAP be used with another humidifier?

The heating plate starts to warm when you pre warm it but never gets hot. When I wake up, the plate and the water are cold. Any advise?

Thanks!

As I understand it, the plate may not heat up if the humidifier senses that there is plenty of humidity in the room. If you are in a humid area (like the Virgin Islands ?), you may not even need a humidifier. I am in the Midwest and we keep our home humidified. I can go 3+ days without refilling my tank.

Thanks for your response!

Interesting... I've questioned whether the climate line ever worked. Is it supposed to feel warm to the touch?

The humidifier definitely used to work. I had to turn it down at one point. It's been humid lately but the numerous times I've woken up barely able to swallow, with my lips stuck to my teeth, tells me that I need that heated humidifier! LOL I have a back up heated humidifier but I don't know if it's compatible with the S9 VPAP

It shouldn't ever feel "hot"...warm yeah but not hot.
It's common for it to seem to be "cold" first thing in the AM. Maybe it just didn't need to heat up for whatever reason around the time you woke up.
If it is warming up....it's working at least during start up. Often only minimal heat is ever needed depending on settings, hose and room humidity.

Other than this humidifier..nothing else will work with the S9 unless you go with some sort of stand alone humidifier like the F & P stand along humidifier that works with all machines.

Are you using the CLimateLine hose or the regular hose ?
And what settings are you choosing with either?
And what is the relative ambient humidity where you live?

Also..what mask are you using?
If you are mouth breathing that likely explains the dry mouth and it can happen even if using a full face mask at the highest humidity setting. Sometimes the mouth just dries out a lot..meds or lots of mouth breathing.

Thanks Pugsy!

I do have a stand alone humidifier. It's old. Might be a F&P. I'll have to dig it out and take a look.

I use a climate line. It has never felt even slightly warm. Temps here rarely drop below 80 in the summer and only down to around 70 in the winter. I set the H5i at 3 for most of the year. I goosed it to 6 yesterday but the plate and water were cold this morning. The outside (and inside) temp probably only dropped to 75 or so last night. Humidity here is moderate in the winter and high in the summer. The humidity lately has been high due to frequent showers and squalls. The windows are always open here so whatever it's like outside is what it's like inside.

Yes, the dry mouth is probably from mouth breathing. I tend to mouth breathe more when I don't have a heated humidifier. I use nasal pillows. The software shows that I have a lot of leaks. The nasal pillows and headgear fit well so it might be picking up mouth breathing.

I'm not sure if I answered all of your questions or not. LOL Thanks so much for your help!

If your tank is full when you go to bed, what is the level when you wake up. If it's down then something is working.

When it was working, I'd get about 3 nights out of a tank. I think it would last better than a week now.

It definitely failed. Sleep went down hill about a week to 10 days ago. I started noticing that I was breathing cold air during the night. That's what led me to start looking at the humidifier. I'm at a higher pressure so the difference is quite noticeable.

Thanks! Is there any chance that the humidifier problem lies within the S9 VPAP rather than within the humidifier itself?

The only you'll know is if you had another humidifier, you know anyone who has one. I'd put my money on the humidifier but then I'm a gambler on things like that.

There are no DME's on this island that carry CPAP gear and I don't know of anyone else on CPAP - not here, at any rate.

I might have to be a gambler just like you. Many thanks!

Is your machine still under warranty? About 6-8 months after I started with my VPAP my humidifier failed. There was an message on the screen, don't remember the exact wording. My DME had it replaced for me.

I have a couple of spare humidifiers..used about one week. Look brand new. I would sell them for what I paid $50 plus shipping which won't be much.

If you are using the climate line is it set to automatic or manual?
Automatic is supposed to give 80% humidity.
If set to manual you have temp and humidity settings available separately.

Thanks, Pugsy! That's very generous of you. I'll dig out my old humidifier today and see what I have. I'll get back to you.

Automatic or manual? Heh heh, I have no idea. I'll look for the settings
