I'm back to using BPAP nightly -- I thought I was only using it for about an hour and a half, but the machine says I used it for three hours! My AHI was down at .7 (as well as an apparent complete loss of my ability to read a clock! )
I'm curious, though, my doc said my diagnosis was "mild to moderate," but I also think he said 5 episodes an hour. But according to Wikipedia, "mild to moderate" is around 15 episodes an hour?

Re: Minor breakthrough!
A lot of the guides only refer to ahi, but there can be clusters of events and very long events that make it worse. My mom borrowed my machine for half a night to see how settings were working for her as her older machine did not have data. She had a treated ahi of 3.4, but her events were clustered, over 30 seconds each, and one was over a minute long. I'm sure her oxygen levels were bad. She has a new machine with updated settings that work well for her.
It is possible that your doctor was considering those other factors when telling you how bad your sleep apnea is.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Makes sense. At any rate I'm pretty chuffed about my .7!zoocrewphoto wrote:It is possible that your doctor was considering those other factors when telling you how bad your sleep apnea is.

Definitely a great number. Are you sleeping pretty well with few wakeups?Snufkin wrote:Makes sense. At any rate I'm pretty chuffed about my .7!zoocrewphoto wrote:It is possible that your doctor was considering those other factors when telling you how bad your sleep apnea is.

Re: Minor breakthrough!
Hard to say. I sleep well for that first stint of the night, then I wake up and have a terrible time going to sleep again with the mask on. This is the current challenge I'm up against, that second go-round with the damn thing in the middle of the night.zoocrewphoto wrote: Are you sleeping pretty well with few wakeups?

I have more trouble in the later part of the night too. As long as I get at least 4 hours before the first wake up, it is a good night overall. Over 6 is great, and anything above 7 is awesome. Those are rare.
Fortunately, I usually only have one bathroom break now, so if i can get 4 or 5 hours before then, I can still get another 2-4 hours before I get up. And that would still be a good night. If I only get 2 or 3 hours before waking up, I am having a bad night.
Do you have an idea how long you are going before that first wakeup? Do you know why you are waking up then? Mask leak, uncomfortable, etc?
I don't know why it seems harder to get going again after waking up. Back when I first started, that was when my wort mask fitting problems occurred. In the middle of the night when I was desperate to sleep and too sleepy to think clearly and deal with the various fitting issues.
