How about genetics? High chol. runs in families and may or may not be a bad thing for them, and the body makes cholesterol too, regardless of what you take in or not.

I haven't read the other posts in this thread, but has hypothyroidism been mentioned? After I started on meds, my high cholesterol fell, and kept falling, without changing anything else. Plenty of research supports this:
