Getting new mask -- how to sell old one?

Post by Isadora » Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:14 pm

Hi,

I tried to save money and got a Phillips Respironics mask on sale from CPAP.com and found that it doesn't fit my face properly. I just ordered a F&P Eson as that's the one I used in my sleep study. I would like to sell the first mask as I only used it a few times and it's still so new. I used it I think 2 or 3 times. Can I sell it on here or should I look elsewhere? It cost me about $40 on sale.

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/comfor ... onics.html

Also, what amount should I sell it for, I've never sold one before.

Thanks!

Considering it's used, I would think you won't get a lot for it... in fact I'm not sure I would bother trying if it only cost $40. new, but your note will let people know you're interested and they will write in. I guess you make it a 'best offer' deal and see how it goes.

What size is it? If a person was interested in it they would want to know the size.
Like Julie says...it's considered used and the value drops significantly even if it wasn't used but a handful of nights. That's just the way it goes here on the forum.
You might also try Craigslist. You might get more close to what you paid for it on Craigslist.
It's not one of the more popular masks out there. It's been around for a long time and there's a reason why it was on sale for half price. Sort of like when you go to the department store and see the clothes for last season on sale half price.

We can continue giving your post a little bump to keep it in front of people here and if someone is interested they will contact you.

I am as likely to buy a used $40 retail mask as a used tooth brush. I use a very expensive mask but would not buy one used to save money. My insurance company buys me two per year.

Who cares what you would or would not buy.......
There are lots of people that are not as fortunate as you....they are very happy to be able to purchase an almost new mask for a reasonable price.

Isadora, another option would be to see if someone wants to make a trade. That allows users to try different masks. There is a thread here for that called "THE GREAT PILLOW EXCHANGE".

The URL is: viewtopic/t93944/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36 ... de#p865459

It isn't just for pillows; people trade masks there too! Maybe you could make a trade for a spare mask cushion for your Eson or try a different mask cheaply that way.

All my past experiments when I was first starting cpap therapy were done on used masks. No way could I afford new and with insurance allowing 2 per year...that sure makes experiments few and far between and I sure wouldn't want to "waste" the 6 month allowance on something that wouldn't work.
I think I tried just about every nasal pillow mask available at the time except the Headrest.
Back then we had the cpapauction site where we could buy gently used masks... I was comfortable with just doing my own cleaning too. We don't have the auction now...so we just offer them at a discount here on the forum or swap them out with another gently used mask.

We don't all have deep pockets or insurance to pay for our experiments and the only way to know for sure if a mask is going to work or not is by trying one.
If the thought of using something that has touched someone else's face really creeps a person out...then hey, don't buy used anything but I am not too proud to make use of a gently used mask. They are easily disinfected. I have sent my own keeper masks out for trial for a few nights and then they get sent back to me. Recently offered the Nano that way...went to someone short on funds and insurance allowance a long way off. Just so that person could see if it was maybe a workable mask.

If a person is a germaphobe and it really bothers them...then they don't have to partake of any offers but there are lots of us out here that are okay with it. If I was in the market to try this sort of mask...I might make an offer but this mask doesn't interest me at all. It's an older style mask that I wouldn't be surprised if it faded into the sunset one of these days but there may be someone out there that just loves this mask and doesn't have even $40 to spend for new.

I have a lot of masks that were donated so that I could send them out to the needy...some of them are pretty tired but most of them if I didn't tell you they were used, you would never know it just by looking at them.

Craigslist may be your best if you want to sell and not trade. Some of the patients I have met will purchase extra mask from craigslist. Not sure if used will be a huge turn off for people but it doesn't hurt (or cost anything) to try.

Ahh, ok. I am thinking of donating it, then. Maybe it can help someone who is in a pickle who just needs *something*. Any ideas where to donate it? Thank you, all.

Riddle: How does a germophobe get out of a public bathroom if the door opens inward and there are no paper towels?
Answer: Wait until someone else comes in; or call the store on your cell and ask them to let you out.
We all have our own level of comfort. Some are not very comfortable at any level.

If you want it out of the house and out of sight....just put it up here on the forum...free to good home if you pay postage (people should at least pay postage if at all possible) and I bet someone will want it.
We have had a couple of newbies this past couple of weeks that don't have insurance or their deductible is so high they won't ever meet it so they are buying out of pocket...and one guy was DIYing it totally without even a RX.

If no one wants it you can send it to me (PM me for address) and I will put it with the other donated items that I send out to various people as the need arises since I am on the forum a lot and rarely miss the newbies needing stuff.
I will even reimburse your postage costs. I am getting a bit low on complete mask packages.

I've bought and sold..and donated many used masks to forum members. They're all "expensive". It's a chance to try different masks without breaking the bank even though most of us have some insurance but it's limited. All the masks I've received and sold/donated have been in excellent condition and gently used. A good cleaning does the job. It's a great way to help each other.
