Nasal Mask for side/back sleepers

Post by Seattleboy49 » Tue Nov 12, 2013 3:28 pm

Hi all, since I am still in the evaluation period for the CPAP I am going to exchange my Opus 360 pillow mask for a nasal mask. I mostly sleep on my side and stomach though so I want to make sure I don't end up with a mask that is more for back sleepers. Any recommendations? What about the below from cpap.com?

Thanks in advance

Fisher & Paykel Eson is a good nasal mask. It is very light and not prone to leaking.

Also consider the ResMed Activa LT

You might also look at the SleepWeaver Elan, it is my favorite. I find it great for side sleeping as it is all cloth and does not dig into my face.

If you try it you will either love it or hate it.

Another good side sleeper might be the Tap Pap.

I do not like standard plastic masks, they are too unforgiving when I bury my face in the pillow.

I still like my Swift FX. Tried the Wisp and had tooooo many leaks.

I use the Fisher & Paykel Zest. I'm a serious side sleeper with back problems. I flip from one side to another a couple of times a night. I've had no problems with losing the seal. Love it.

I second the ResMed Activa LT https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html I have found it to be comfortable and to seal well. Another bonus: The same mask frame can take ResMed's Soft Gel cushion if you prefer a gel cushion to the lighter weight Activa cushion. I have used both and like them both. I have also used the Comfort Gel that was one of the links in your original email.

For some reason, I have had trouble getting the Wisp to seal, and same with the Sleepweaver cloth mask. I really want to use them, and will try again when I remember to.

I'm liking my Nuance pillows. My leak raTe is finally coming down, and turning over on my side no longer pushes the silicone away from my nares.

I've also tried the Swift FX and Nano, with both Bella Loops (which I liked) and the headgear (which was a nightmare). The Nuance headgear was barely noticeable, and didn't move or pull my hair.

I've decided that masks are a VERY individual choice, and we are lucky that our sponsor, cpap.com, has 'return insurance' (usually for nothing), that means any mask I hate, I can return at no cost to me. And, they don't make you call and ask, they just send you return instructions a few days after you get the mask! Drop it in a FedEx box and you're done!
