Seattleboy49 wrote:Just curious because I was told that since I have mild sleep apnea surgery would fix the apnea itself and possibly also releave my sinusitis. From what I have been told everyone has a deviated septum to a certain degree, but according to my ENT, mine is particularly crooked.
I have been on the CPAP for 3 weeks now and though it has helped in regards to snoring I am still getting hit pretty hard by my usual fall/winter round of sinusitis and I am thinking maybe surgery is the only way to correct that. The only thing that gives me pause is that I actually know a decent amount of people who have had this surgery and it seems like it really helps some and others it did not. I am of the "don't get surgery unless absolutely necessary" variety so I am torn.
anyone with experience have any opinions on this?
thanks,
Kyle
Kyle,
I had balloon sinuplasty and septoplasty last February due to chronic sinusitis. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I was ALWAYS stuffed up and had sinus infections. It took awhile for my nose to heal but I had no pain from it.
I have had a lot of trouble using CPAP since then. It turns out I don't tolerate CPAP therapy since I can breathe through my nose. The good news is that I am now using a heated tube and APAP. The lower pressure for most of the night and a heated tube has made a world of difference. I'm doing great now. The most frustrating thing has been dealing with my insurance company but things are beginning to work out.
I now have tons of energy and I actually look forward to going to bed. I was on CPAP for 2 years before my surgery. I kept at it because I didn't feel worse, but I didn't feel better either. I am feeling like I'm alive again. If I hadn't had the surgery, I know I would still be struggling.

Re: Anyone here have Septoplasty or sinus surgery?
I had a Septoplasty in May and it was in my experience the most painful of any surgery I have had although I haven't had many. It did help me breath more easily but I am still experiencing problems with congestion of sorts and using Nasonex every day. My ENT tells me it can take from 3-4 months to get relief from post surgery congestion and up to a year for complete healing of the nose. The good news is that it didn't effect my apnea treatment and has made using a nasal mask a possibility as I can now breath freely through my nose at night where before I couldn't. In my case I was lucky because I had no post op bleeding or any packing so that was a positive but congestion was a huge problem.
