Auto sv detecting mouth leaks

Post by Boop » Mon Nov 11, 2013 5:51 pm

I have the auto sv bipap. I am trying to use a nasal mask with it. I was wondering if the machine is able to detect mouth leaks? Does leaks only mean mask leaks?

What brand ASV are you using?

In general your machine will detect any kind of leak---mouth leaks or leaks caused by the mask seal being broken and the air leaking out elsewhere. But how to interpret the leak data depends on which brand machine you own.

It appears to be a Respironics AuoSV.

Nope. It only means a leak. If you hose is leaking it would show up as a leak. With your nasal mask, you have two probable areas of leaks around the mask and through the mouth. It does not differentiate between the two. However, it is leaking out of your mouth, your mouth will dry out and feel pretty "cottony". Especially if it lasts for any length of time. You will be pretty certain it's a mouth leak.
