Mid Nite sleep supplement

Post by Zzzzzzzzzzz... » Mon Nov 11, 2013 9:34 am

Hey all,

Anyone try this?

http://www.amazon.com/MidNite-Natural-S ... B001INWH7C

Seems to get some pretty good reviews, though from what I've read, not many xpap users weighing in.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Z

It's just melatonin with a few other things thrown in to raise the price. They're known to help relax you, but if you have the melatonin anyhow, they're probably not needed, tho' the Mel. itself is only half of a regular low dose. I'd just get melatonin 3 mg tabs and be done with it.

Ingredients are:

1.5 mg melatonin
22 mcg proprietary blend of lemon balm, chamomile, and lavender.

While the instructions say it can be taken at any time during the night, I personally would NOT take that much melatonin if I would up in the middle of the night. That's enough melatonin to play havoc with my melatonin cycles and while I might not have any problems waking up the next morning, taking that much melatonin too late in the night may make it harder to get sleepy at bed time the next night .....

?? 3 mg is the low normal 'starter' dose... 5 would be routine for some.

Most people do not need 3 mg, and definitely not 5 mg. There are many posts about the "overdoses" of melatonin that people take - do a search on this site. Although not "most people" I find that half a 2 mg tablet works well to help me sleep through the night.

If you are going to recommend dosages you should get the latest information and drop using bad information that was not based on any science. You can watch these videos - http://www.doctoroz.com/episode/why-mel ... your-sleep.

Note there are four parts with four separate videos to see the whole story.

What I've read talks about 3 or 5 mg. I wasn't 'recommending' them to anyone, but do occasionally take the 3 mg ones myself. I don't think I give out 'bad' information, let alone info based on no science! I can find all kinds of stuff online to back up what I said and I'm sure you can do the same for what you say... so what? And you really don't want to know my take on Dr. Oz!

What I've read about melatonin recommends starting with 300mcg, and going up from there. Personally, I favor 1mg sublingual tablets. I've also read some speculation that taking too much could result in losing the ability to produce it in your own body. On the other hand it's pretty controversial, lots of opinions on the internet. I'd recommend starting with a low dose, between 300mcg and 1mg, and seeing what happens from there.

Have to agree with CG on this.

It is also common sense with any supplement to start low and go slow.

And a sleep doctor not in my area who has helped friends of mine routinely suggests that if someone takes melatonin that they start off with a .50 dosage and work their way slowly up to around 2mg if necessary.

Personally, melatonin has never helped me sleep wise but I do realize it has helped many people. Once again, your mileage will vary.

Okay, so to summarize, no one's tried Mid Nite.

Thanks for the thread discussion nonetheless, I might try some really low dose melatonin… beats low dose xanax!

Try 1mg of melatonin. If that doesn't work, go up 1mg. Remember that in any given pill and any given bottle, you can't count on how much melatonin there really is, as it's not regulated.

See my thread on Silenor for sleep maintenance insomnia, although take note of the very strong food effect (you are supposed to take it 30 minutes before bed, at least 3 hours AFTER eating).

Another middle of the night possibility is Sonata.

I have to go straight to scripts. 1Ambien 30 minutes before plan to be asleep and each timeI wake up I take a 10 mg vallium to put me back down the Ambien plus 2 Vallium usually get me 5.5 to 6.5 hours. Then I walk the floors disturbing wifes sleep till I settle down to read. Wish there was another way.
