I had my sleep study done as one procedure to try to get a root cause of my many health challenges.

For a diagnosis of Syncope with Collapse I had a complete ENT checkup with an MRI. , a 2 hour neurological EEG, I also had a very extensive cardiologic workup which included Echo Cardiogram, EKG, Nuclear Stress test, Pharmacological Stress test, 24 hour Holter Monitor, two 7 hour Electrophysiology evaluations (the first of which resulted in a receiving an implanted Medtronic Reveal loop recorder and the second resulting in 2 RF ablations to alleviate found areas generating SVT’s). I’m still experiencing heart perturbations but I no longer collapse .

My sleep study determined I had severe apnea (AHI 108.5/hour) with my lowest spO2 desat in the mid 80%’s. My sleep Doctor explained that I was being jolted with adrenaline every 35 seconds all night long to reinitiate breathing. I have since had follow-up visits with my Otolaryngologist, Neurologist, Electrophysiologist, Cardiologist, Sleep Doctor (Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary and sleep medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine) and Primary Care Physician.

Since starting CPAP my AHI has dropped to an average of less than 2/hour. I am still exhausted, seems like more so than pre-CPAP. I’ve asked all of the above physicians if my tiredness could be attributed to adrenaline withdrawal as I presumably didn’t get the jolt every 35 seconds anymore. I was told by all…No. That’s six board certified physicians who I continue to baffle.

Was this a question for me? If so the answer is yes, both blood work and radioactive iodine test. All was OK.
