Saw an infomercial on that NuWave induction cook top last night. Anyone here have any experience with one?
Pros and cons?

Hi Pugsy:Pugsy wrote:Saw an infomercial on that NuWave induction cook top last night. Anyone here have any experience with one?

I have one and it does pretty much what the infomercials say it will. The temperature accuracy is pretty good but not down to within 10 degrees, I'm satisfied. Remember that it takes special pans to work. Check your pan with a magnet. If the magnet sticks quite well, it will be fine, if not at all - then pick another pan.
You can get them directly from the NuWave folks, from Walmart, and from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. At least they were available from these sellers when I ordered mine a few months ago.

Re: OT: Anyone use a NuWave induction cook top
Already did that. My "good" stuff won't work and my el cheapo thin steamer/big pot I use for pasta because it is the biggest I have..works. So at the moment I only have one pot that will work. Though it still might be of service for one of my main reasons for looking at it...deep fryer for chicken.JDS74 wrote:Check your pan with a magnet. Not sure I would even care about the grill things.

Also make sure the pan has a flat bottom and is not too tall.

The deal I got at both Walmart and Bed Bath & Beyond included a medium sized skillet in the price. Ck to see if its still available. I have deep fat fried with mine with a pot that was about 10 inches high. I kept the fat level low to minimize splatters.

Re: OT: Anyone use a NuWave induction cook top
I don't have the NuWave specifically, but I have one that looks a lot like it I purchased from Amazon.Pugsy wrote:Saw an infomercial on that NuWave induction cook top last night. Anyone here have any experience with one?

I love it. I keep it on top of my lousy, conventional stovetop, which I hate. When my parents came to visit, my mom thought I was crazy (or crazier than usual), but after she cooked with it, she became a believer.
Pros:
- Heats up quickly
- Doesn't retain heat forever (less melting of bowls, spatulas, etc)
Cons:
- Another appliance
- As already mentioned, won't work with all pans (after moving into my current house and buying new pans, I was already eyeing induction cooktops, so I bought accordingly.)
I'd rather have a nice induction cooktop, or maybe one of the gas/induction combos I've seen, but I don't really do that much cooking to justify replacing an otherwise functioning cooktop. But for quick boiling or even just quickly frying up some eggs or something, it's really hard to beat.
