Success with ASV and cpaptalk!

Post by Tom W » Tue Oct 29, 2013 7:47 am

After 7 titrations, 3 specialists, and 14 years of CPAP, APAP, Bi-PAP and ASV therapy I’ve finally gotten my AHI to an acceptable level.

I just wanted to thank everyone that is currently active here as well as all the past members for without the documentation of their experiences I know that I wouldn’t have made the progress that I did.

Another big thanks has to go out to the software writers/providers (you know who you are (wink-wink)) for without adequate data we’re truly lost.

Congratulations on getting acceptable results. This can be a long and emotionally challenging road for many of us(myself included). This forum has certainly proved useful and informative.

Good for you. Far too many people give up. It's not easy, especially if there are central spread in the mix. But better sleep is possible.

A full month with average AHI of 5 is a dream for me right now. I too have benefitted greatly from this site and though diagnosed 2.5 years ago it over 2 years to find a doctor willing to take my case due to is complicated nature. Sunday night I have my 4th lab study in 3 months. The doctor is seeing me in clinic every week and learning a lot from the fine folks here. Going crom 2 years of doctors running me out the door on day 1 to having a doc who is leanining into the wind and trying to belp is a new concept for me with sleep medicine. I hope to someday stop having AHI scores over 100. Congrats and aiming for my own success story.

Man, you're one determined guy with a lot 'stick to it-ness'. Impressive.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I would like to say that I kept on keeping on all those years but that would be a lie. I’ll admit that more often than not I was frustrated and at times down-right angry. There were a few times I thought that I was broken beyond repair.

The one thing I can take solace in is for my conscience decision strap the mask on each and every night (except for the rare times I had a bad cold/illness).

In the end I don’t even think it was one single ‘thing’ that was the silver bullet for the AHI reduction but rather the cumulative benefit of small improvements in several areas.

I didn't set off with any intentions of becoming an inspiration to troubled CPAPers but if my 'story' helps anyone in any small way than that's a good thing.
