My AHI is 26 and my 90% is 2.3 not sure what this means could someone please explain
I have a F&P Icon Auto the only way I get my AHI under 5 is to switch off senceawake and set machine at 11 min and 17 max and my 90% is always at 17 but I feel a lot more tired and the pressure is hard to stop mask leaking a lot. If I switch on senceawake at 11/17 then my AHI goes up to 16
What is better AHI or 90%
Re: What is better AHI or 90%
Your numbers may have gotten reversed. AHI is apnea hypopnea index meaning the number of events perhour. This is how you know if your treatment is working for you. If you sre getting AHI's of 17...then something is wriong. Below 5 is acceptable and the lower the better.Markh295 wrote:My AHI is 26 and my 90% is 2.3 not sure what this means could someone please explain

90% pressure is a reading used on auto machines telling you that 90% of the time your pressure is below this number. So I don't believe that a 90% reading of 2.3 is correct. Give us the real/correct data and perhaps you'll get some responses.

This is a super confusing post and like Jamiswolf, I'm wondering if you have some of the numbers reversed.Markh295 wrote:My AHI is 26 and my 90% is 2.3 not sure what this means could someone please explain

You are using an F&P Icon Auto in Auto mode.
We would expect the 90% pressure level to be somewhere betwween 11 and 17 and it makes perfect sense that your 90% pressure level is 90%: In other words, it is quite likely that your pressure is running at 10% or more of the night on a consistent basis and that would make the 90% pressure level = 17.
But I have no idea what a 90% = 2.3 could be measuring. Your machine reports total leaks including the intentional leak rate for your mask, if I recall correctly. Hence that 2.3 cannot be a 90% leak rate number. And it can't be a 90% pressure level number since your min pressure is 11. So what the heck is it? Perhaps it's the AHI instead of a 90% number??? But with pressures going as high as 17 cm, it's not clear that 26 is a reasonable number for the 90% leak rate either since most masks are going to have intentional leak rates above 30-40 L/min at 17 cm. (Of course, my own total leak rate usually is 5-6 L/min below the expected leak rate, so maybe that 26 is a 90% leak rate of 26 L/min?)
As to why your AHI would increase with SenseAwake on: If the SenseAwake feature is (inaccurately) detecting microawakenings and lowering the pressure from 11 to 17 for extended periods of time and if 11 cm H2O is NOT enough pressure to adequately control your apnea, then that explains the jump: With SenseAwake on, you're likely sleepy for long periods of time with inadequate amounts of pressure. One fix might be to raise the SenseAwake pressure to something much closer to the 17cm that you need to control the apnea. You could try using a SenseAwake pressure of 14 or 15 cm instead of 11 cm.

Mark, you are using F&P ICON AUTO, Do you be aware of the fact that the firmware of the F&P ICON before version 1.0.5 is incorrect on the display of the Icon? I do not know which version you used or that you used InfoSmart or SleepyHead version 0.9.0.3? For all the F&P ICon users version 0.9.0.4 of SleepyHead will come in a while and have much more graphics than version 0.9.0.3. So be patient.
You can find the version of the firmware in the medical screen of the Icon. In this medical screen you could also change the menu 1 into menu 2, with more information.

Further a SensAwake is an electronic pulse given by a detection of an arousal to lowering the pressure for a while.
The pressure which you are using min 11 max 17 is very high in mine eyes. Did you put this pressure by yourself or did your doctor do this? What for mask do you use? Nose, Fullface or Intranasal nasalmask like the Swift FX from Resmed or the Opus360 from F&P?
I'm using the Swift FX, min 7 - max 10 cmh2o, with carefusion chinmask (Ruby adjustable) F&P ICON AUTO version 1.0.5. My AHI is now since 17-12-2012 3.7 / hour.

Re: What is better AHI or 90%
This really isn't that high. It happens to be my own pressure settings as well. My machine stays between 11 and 13 most of the night and goes up higher as needed. Many people have a starting pressure of 18 or higher and go up from there. It all depends on the individual person. That is why we have titration studies and not just the same pressure for everybody.ruud1957 wrote: The pressure which you are using min 11 max 17 is very high in mine eyes.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: What is better AHI or 90%
The F&P Icon have a minimum of 4 cmh2o and a maximum of 20 cmh2o, so that is why I thought that a maximum of 17 is already high.
