Foolish purchase? PR 550 v. PR 560
Foolish purchase? PR 550 v. PR 560
I have an opportunity to buy a Philips Respironics 550 auto for a great price. My primary machine is the PR 560, and I would use the 550 as a travel / backup machine. Is this a foolish decision? Is the 550 going to bother me after being so spoiled by the 560? I have combed the web and I can't figure out what is different about the 550 compared to the 560.
Thank you!

Maureen,
I've bought and sold lots of machines. Look at the hours to see how heavily used it's been. And what might seem like a good price might not be. On Craigslist you can get an idea of what used machines are going for. You should be able to get that machine used for a couple hundred...mas o menos...

The hours are 2.4, and the price is $199. I know that I could get a new 560 from STL Mark for about $400. Any advise?

My travel machine is a brick on straight pressure... doesn't bother me one bit to go from auto to straight pressure. Your spare machine does not have to be the exact same as your preferred one... for a travel or spare machine I figure $$$$$ and hours of use are the best criteria

Sounds like a good price, especially with the low hours, and I assume it's clean and doesn't smell smoky.
I'd jump on it.

Seems fair to me, certainly not foolish. Assuming of course, that it works OK.Mgsnorer wrote:The hours are 2.4, and the price is $199. I know that I could get a new 560 from STL Mark for about $400. Any advise?

I think the only difference between the two machines is that the 560 SUPPORTS the heated hose and the 550 does not.
So go for it!
So go for it!
Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

Thank you everyone for all the information. I just picked it up. 2.4 hours, no smoke, works great.

It's nice to have a backup that's same or similar to your primary. Congrads on the good deal.Mgsnorer wrote:Thank you everyone for all the information. I just picked it up. 2.4 hours, no smoke, works great.

The 550 is an excellent machine. The main difference you'll see is no heated hose option.
The 550 humidifier unit and tank aren't interchangeable with the 560 and vice versa, but work fine with their own kind.

Nope, believe it or not, the craigslist seller was a pawnshop in Huntington Park, CABobshouse wrote:
