How quiet is your XPAP?

Post by NOLONGERTIRED » Fri Jun 16, 2006 5:05 pm

I think I've become a noise brat! I've been using my DME suppled Fisher & Paykel HC234 for the better part of a year now. It is a little too large for travelling and it definitely lacks meaningful compliance reporting, but it's incredibly quiet. I can barely hear it in the middle of the night even though it's only a couple of feet from my bed. A few months ago I ordered a Goodnight 420E from CPAP.COM and returned it because it sounded like a wheezing vacuum cleaner. The replacement unit was no better. The good folks at CPAP.COM took it back and put me on backorder for a new M series auto. Since it's not out and I'm about to start extensive travelling I switched to the M series PRO which I received today. I hooked it up and was hugely disappointed that it sounded like I was breathing through a tiny cocktail straw. I tried three different masks and they were all way too loud. Now I'm in turmoil? Is my HC234 unusually quiet or am I just cursed with every excessively loud machine that CPAP.COM has? I've never seen this topic explored here and would love to hear what some of you have got to say!

noise level

I have only used an M plus so there is only a little I can offer. My wife likes the white noise of the machine at night. At least it is quieter then my snoring. My Vornado fan on low is louder then the M plus so it has not worried me too much.

On another note, what is you pressure setting. I have heard that the higher the pressure the louder a machine can get. You can also try wearing ear plugs as an option.

Noise

I ahd a Fisher&Paykel HC608 CPAP which I also found to be amazingly quiet. I've since switched to a ResMedS8 AutoSet Vantage which isn't AS quiet as the F&P, but VERY quiet nonetheless. With the ResMEd, I can hear myself breathing through the hose. There was no such noise with the F&P.

On the other hand, the S8 is MUCH cuter than the F&P and therefore, more amenable to travel. And, though I thought that the integrated humdifier/heated hose on the F&P was fantastic, I did find that, from time to time, the heated hose would make the air stuffy and would wake me. But man, was it QUIET!!!

(BTW, I don't miss the F&P humidifier/heated hose on my ResMed. I find the ResMed humdifier to be plenty efective).

Hope this helps.

We are traveling right now. My Respironics Auto bipap is inches from my head
and it is noisy. I flew KC-135s for over a decade. I have certifiable hearing
loss comparable to a corpse. And I am telling you my unit is noisy. A real
person couldn't stand it.

But then again, I don't normally have it next to my head.

The biggest noise is from my opening my mouth and the wind howls through. The wife and I both use the Auto BiPap and the Mirage Swift.

Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.
