Resmed S9 Filters

I ordered what I thought was a real resmed filter and not a 3rd party. Turns out it was a 3rd party filter. It was not very well made one side was not stitched. So I decided to buy some cheap 3rd party and a real resmed S9 hypoallergenic filter.

Before I get to that, when I did start using a hypoallergenic filter, it was black in a month, where the regular S9 filter, almost looked new, so there seems to be a big different between a regular and hypoallergenic.

Then I got a authentic resmed s9 hypoallergenic filter

Resmed won it, hands down. It was slightly larger, and the best constructed, and the thickest. You can tell a small difference between the thickness when you handle them.

So if you have really bad allergies, the resmed might be the better choice, thought it will cost you more.

Are you referring to that small filter behind the main unit under a plastic cover? I cant imagine how it got black unless it has been in the unit for 15 or 20 years. I think I changed mine several months ago but it was a year old and did not look dirty at all nor even dusty. Dis you perhaps have your unit sitting on the floor where dust might be more prevalent?

Hi Roger,

It's up high and I keep the area clean, as best I can. The regular s9 filter is very rough and pourous, where the hypoallergenic one is a very fine weave, almost like cotton balls. For what ever reason, it gets dirtier faster, probably because it is catching more of the dust and particles.
Has anyone else notce a dfference between the 2.

oh and when say black, maybe am stretching it a bit, but very dirty and very dark gray.

My S9 didn't come with the coarse filter....only the white fine filter.
Mine gets a dark gray after about a month. Same thing happens to my PR S1 white fine filter after same time frame.
I routinely try to change it about once a month. Sometimes it goes a little longer and the filter looks really yucky..
I only use the hypoallergenic white filters though. I don't recall using a white filter was wasn't hypoallergenic. The first filter that came with it might have been that type...but I didn't pay any attention to it.

I use Resmed hypoallergenic filters and was changing the filters weekly, they were very obviously gray. Then I had furnace air ducts cleaned out and there has been a noticeable difference. Nowhere as gray after 1 week but I think I will still go for every 2 weeks for a while.

My thoughts would lean to how we heat our homes. Two examples would be Wood Stoves & Vent Free LP Wall Heaters. Both may show a darker filter quicker. I also use the hypoallergenic white filters. I assumed they were ResMed, how can you tell? My DME gave me the choice and I opted for the hypoallergenic filters to be on the safe side and help keep the inside of the machine clean. The filter that it came with was reusable and gray. It was coarse and I was concerned about particles getting past it. I was told they don't offer that one any more. I try and change mine as needed and check it often. I would like to know if the ResMed's come in a marked package so I can tell what they are sending me.

Hmmm, make me wonder if mine is sucking in air from somewhere besides through the filter. I have had my machine for about 16 months now and have never seen that filter dirty. I did change it once but only because everyone seemed to be saying it should be changed.

The higher your total leak rate, the more air you'll be filtering. That may make a big difference between users base on pressure and unintentional leaks.

Are we talking about the white fine filter or the other filter that used to be standard with the S9. I have seen one on an older S9. It is washable. My machine bought this year didn't come with that filter and I can't find it anywhere to buy it. I would love to add it to the outside for some extra filtering.

If you are using a white fine filter and it is still nice and white...that's wonderful. Probably your house is a lot cleaner than mine and maybe pressures used are different. My house is an old, old farmhouse that sucks dust in from the outside something awful.
I had the same monthly gray white filter when I used the Respironics machines also.

Having just received a S9 I need a source for REAL Resmed hypoallergenic filters for it. Places I have look at that say OEM change to they are just like OEM when you call to ask. Short of buying a bag of 50 filters like I did with my S8 that came in a sealed Resmed bag, where do you get REAL OEM Resmed filters?

Old thread, but ditto that. IMO, once a month is enough for the hypoallergenic filter, ie, the old filter looks very slightly gray when you shine a light on it. At least that's the case where I live in Central California. Apria supplies good filters for me now, but I did find a good place to buy them before that... now I just have to remember where that was

Pugsy just PM'd me and mentioned the EBay marketplace where I bought my quality S9 hypoallergenic ResMed filters... good price too. Sadly, I just couldn't remember the store.

Now my only question is how did she get inside my brain (see my previous post) and find that info before I did I think the aliens have reprogrammed her psychic wavelengths. Only use that power for good, Pugsy. Final Note: the ResMed standard filters just look too full of holes to do anything at all - however if you like your CPAP air free and loose, that would be the way to go... I suppose they would screen out bugs tho.

Most DMEs will give you generic filters (both standard & Hypoallergenic).

IMHO, the ResMed brand Hypoallergenic filters are far superior to any generic filter I have seen.

Just INSIST that the DME provide you with only the ResMed brand filters.

I get a 3 month's supply (6 filters) at one purchase.
For smaller items such as filters, most insurances will allow that, including Medicare.

The ResMed brand filters come in "sealed" bags with the ResMed logo & other identifying information on them. The HUGE bag contains 2 filters.

Will insurance normally pay for the hypoallergenic filters? Or do you have to provide some additional documentation?
