Question about ordering TAP PAP from Apria

Post by bryansong » Tue Oct 08, 2013 8:29 am

Have any of you had any luck getting Apria to order you the Tap Pap?
I am currently using the Tap Pap mask and purchased it myself but
I think Apria should be providing that mask for me when I am due CPAP supplies.

Tagged for future reference. I also purchased my own and would like Apria to buy the replacement parts as needed. I once found the list of masks supplied by Apria, but can't find it anymore...if I happen to run across it again, ill post.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Thank you for the link and I had looked at Apria's site before, I want Apria to add Tap Pap to their list of mask. I am waiting to hear back from
them but I suspect it will be more of the same.

I have spoken with several Apria representatives today and was finally given word that they don't have a contract with Airway Management (maker of Tap Pap)
so they couldn't order from them. I told them then they need to get a contract but I soon found I was getting nowhere.
I then suggested I would contact Airway and ask them why they didn't have a contract with Apria and what other DME's I could use. The Apria rep thought that
was a good idea.

emailed Airway and I was phoned by a rep. I was told Airway has been trying get a contract with Apria since March ( I think) with no luck. What gives?

Rep did give me a contact for a supplier that will bill my insurance company. I think they are supposed to contact me.

I am disappointed with Apria, they could make the effort but won't, I guess it's just not worth it to them.

Crapria does have their profit margins to protect. They probably could not get a sufficient volume discount from the Tap Pap maker to make it worth their while.

Since Crapria won competitive bidding in every market I've heard about, they can demand significant price considerations. Manufacturers are in a hard place--lower their own profits to sell to Crapria, or lose the entire Medicare market. Smaller manufacturers lose either way. And ultimately, so do we.

CPAP.com provides a claim form to file for reimbursement from your insurance company. I also have to deal with Apria, but for the next year I will order a new mouthpiece from CPAP.com and try to get reimbursed from my insurance. If it works, and others do the same, it might hit Apria where it hurts the most....the wallet.

Course I might be jumping the gun here so to speak...just got my Tap Pap in the mail this afternoon. Got it fit and tried it for leaks...looking great, but I've got to make it through a couple of nights before I jump on the bandwagon.

I work for a home health provider (DME) and have worked at several during the past 10 years. Its a tough position to be in especially right now with dropping reimbursements from many insurance providers. When we receive a request for a mask we dont carry the warehouse manager or supply manager will make an effort to contact the maker of the mask and inquire about pricing. As you can imagine, if the company only wants to purchase a few mask the cost is pretty high. The company cannot order a lot of mask and have them sit there because no one wants inventory that just sits there. If the reimbursement rate barely covers the cost if the machine and mask any extra cost (i.e. a higher priced mask) will cut into the already low profits (or worse cause the company to lose money on that set up). Its a tough decision but in the end its like any other business...most DME's will carry the most popular mask due to pricing and usage.

I am not looking for a Tap Pap, I prefer Circadiance SleepWeaver Élan.
I have to use Apria to get in network Medicare Advantage coverage. Last round Apria refused to get the mask for me so I bought it from CPAP.com myself. Tomorrow I am due for a replacement. I have talked to Circadience and they, too have been trying to get in with Apria and told me they would be happy to sell ONE mask to Apria to fill my order. This is contrary to what Apria told me. They said they would be required to place a minimum order of $10,000.

So on Monday I begin my own personal war with Apria.

By the way I will also be getting a new PRS one Auto SV machine, which may present its own battle over the amount of copayment. They have already suggested that they will massively inflate the retail value (400%) before applying the 20% copayment.

This is exactly why I avoided "advantage plans".
My Part B supplement is a Plan F, which will not only cover my deductibles, and 20% copay, but excess charges,
which are limited by law if they wish to continue sucking the Medicare teat.
I pay a hefty premium, but no deductible and no co-pay; with cpap, diabetes testing, and doctor visits,
I come out ahead, (knock on wood)
