Hope this helps!!
Hi Quietmorning,

Thanks for mentioning this pillow.

Unfortunately, I didn't find the cpap deluxe pillow comfortable for side sleeping but fortunately, was able to return it to Bed Bath and Beyond. Since this one can be ordered there with a 30 money back guarantee, I might give it a shot.

I am assuming it is working very well for you.

You know, 49er, I haven't tried it for side sleeping, as I have to sleep on my back. It's very comfortable and has wonderful support. . .but I'm wondering if it will work well with a ff mask on your side. . .

Someone said that wulfman sleeps with this pillow . . . I don't know what kind of mask he uses, but perhaps it would be worth asking him before you go to the hassle of testing this one?

Thanks, I am holding off on buying new pillow for various reasons.

He uses an ultra mirage mask so obviously it must work very well for side sleeping.

I'd like to revive this thread...

I'm a mostly side sleeping guy, 5' 9" and 225 lbs with very broad shoulders. I'm using Resmed's Swift FX nasal pillow mask....

I just can't find a pillow with the correct height to support my neck. I raise my pillow by putting folded towels and an extra pillow underneath! The more stuff I have underneath, the more possibility of them shifting around overnight...

I tried the very expensive Tempurpedic contour pillow, the 5" high one. First, I had to raise it 2-3 inches from day one. Since it was a long/wide pillow, the sides were always bumping on my nasal pillows. But it was OK for the first 1.5-2 months. Then the pillow started losing it's firmness and then my head started sinking in. Now I have another pillow underneath (plus three folded bath towels)!

I just tried the MediFlow Water Pillow. Even with 5+ quarts of water in it, my head sank in it, raising the sides and obstructing my nasal pillows.

In another thread, I read about Regenesis buckwheat pillow. I am wondering if I can fill that pillow to 7+inches high and then adjust the sides to a shape that won't interfere with my mask.

In summary, I'm looking ideas.suggestions for pillows that might work for me. Here's what I'll need

1) Adjustable height, 5-8 inches
2) Extra firm density
3) Shape/size that won't interfere with my nasal pillow mask
4) Cures baldness (This will be very nice too )

Thanks!

Hi, BlueWaters -

I when I was helping my son with my grandson a month ago, I put two pillows inside of one pillow case to increase the thickness. The pillowcase cut down the shifting in a huge way. (There was no shifting)

Maybe this will work for you? The other thing is maybe a hull pillow - you can add more hulls to them according to the thickness you need, but I've never tried one. . .the people that use them swear by them, though.

Buckwheat hull pillow but you will likely need 2 of them to get the height you need.
It will give you the firmness you need yet allow you to move the hulls to make a nest for your mask.
That's what I used for years until I got one of those water filled MediFlow pillows. For me I don't need or want much height so it works great for me.
My cat did something pretty bad on my buckwheat hull pillow and that's why I decided to try something else just for fun.
Check the height of the pillow dimensions...you may need 2 to get your desired height.

or check with beans72.com on their buckwheat hull pillow for their dimensions. I got a king from them and had to remove a truckload of hulls because it was too high and too firm for me and I like a firm pillow...my MediFlow has the full 5 qts in it and it still isn't too firm.

Either one lets you add or subtract the hulls to get desired firmness.

Sorry..won't help with male patterned baldness though but maybe you will sleep so great it won't matter.

Buckwheat hulls are easily moved so you can make a little "nest" for the mask and they stay in the position you move them and not put undue pressure on the mask.

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried that in the past and it actually was OK until the total pillow thickness reached a certain point. If the contraption got too high, then the pillows kind of got squeezed inside the pillow case. I just need to get or make a special pillow case kind of like a box shape with high sides. I think that'll work.

Good luck with the MediFlow pillow. I too filled it with 5 quarts and it wasn't too firm either. I would have needed to raise it too.

About the buckwheat pillows, it sounds like the filling doesn't shift around that much, right? So if I make indentations towards the sides, will they more or less stay like that throughout the night?

Thanks to both of you

Yes, the indentations will pretty much stay where you make them. The hulls will need to have some room to move though or else you can't make a little nest for the mask.
I am small woman..not quite 5 ft tall and small shoulders...plus I have a metal plate in my neck so I can't do very tall pillows at all and 3 inches is tall to me.
The Regenisis pillow (the standard size) was just the right height for me so that's why I suggest that you may need 2 of them to get the height you need.
The king size that I got from 72beans.com was way too tall for me but it might suit you. It's packed tight and tall. I had to remove a lot of hulls to get it low enough for me. Plus it was a nightmare to put a pillow case on it. Talk about heavy and awkward.
Once I got enough hulls removed it was fine but I probably removed half of them. Then the new kitty pooped on it and sort of made it not so great to put my head on...wasn't a nice neat dry poop. That's when I decided to try the MediFlow. I like it but I can understand it not being firm enough for some people.

I think you might like the buckwheat hull pillow. Once you get the height figured out just make sure that the pillow allows for the hulls to be moved aside just a little so that the hulls can stay in the nest shape you fix for your mask.
They aren't nearly as noisy as a person might think. Once you get them moved around to the position you want you don't really notice the noise. Never bothered me anyway and I do a lot of tossing and turning from side to side because I can't lay in any one position very long without my arthritis telling me to move.

Sorry to hear about the kitty mishap! The kitty probably thought it was the litter box with those small shifting hulls under his/her paws

OK, it sounds like I need to try these pillows. But I think I might make or get made a special pillow case for me. And then fill it with the buckwheat hulls. I'm thinking a 8 x 20 x 18 sized rectangular box shaped pillow case might do the trick. I think it'll come to that!

Thank you very much
