Should I be concerned with increased snoring?

Post by KIE » Sat Oct 05, 2013 9:19 am

For the past month since I have started CPAP therapy, I've noticed that my snoring chart, as well as my RERA's were increasing in tandem, with a few more CA's thrown in for good measure. In order to breakup the snore events, and maybe reduce RERA's I've increased my pressure from 7cm to 7.5 cm. Nothing drastic, but hopefully therapeutic. Instead, the snores have increased, though everything else has decreased. The very back of my throat is often soar and scratchy when I wake up, which never happened before. I lowered my pressure back to 7cm, but the snore and RERA score continue to rise, as if I had opened a new can of worms.

Any thoughts, or will this thing just work itself out on it's own? Maybe another factor, such as the changing of the seasons may be contributing to the changes? How do I feel after waking? Much more refreshed from before therapy, but still mentally sluggish all day, and my mood has become more anxious, and I find that I now have a short fuse, if that has any connection or not.

Thanks in advance for your input.

That's an awful lot of snores.
How much of an increase are we talking about here with the change from 7 to 7.5 cm pressure?

If it were me I would be very concerned with these snores. What model is your PR S1 Pro? 450 or 460? You are showing a 60 series humidifier so that should make it a 460 machine. If a 460 machine it has a limited time for APAP mode and that would be something that might be considered because in APAP mode we could see if the machine felt those snores needed more pressure and you would also get Flow Limitation data flags to see if the snores also had some FLs with them.
In fixed CPAP mode Flow Limitation data flags are turned off...so we don't know if there just no FLs or the machine just didn't bother flagging because it was turned off.

Edit: What does your leak line look like???

What do your leak charts look like?
Is it possible that you are having mouth leaks?

That snoring is terrible. Your airway is not staying open enough. Instead of 7 I would bump it up to 9 and see how your readings are,

Here is a good video that explains things better for you: http://www.resmed.com/us/multimedia/und ... 40x380.swf

Bill,

I am reluctant to increase pressure at this stage, because in my reasoning, this huge increase began when I increased it only a little. Perhaps it is only coincidence in the timing. But I don't want to get into the "hit or miss" process of finding the correct pressure. But maybe that's what PAP therapy really is; the chase for the right setting.

Kie,

Please watch the video it should put things in perspective for you.

I am afraid you are right on the hit and miss. I think results will vary per person.
