An apology. . .

Post by rd1978 » Wed Sep 18, 2013 9:20 am

Awhile back I got sucked into a number of OT conversations regarding Obamacare. This is an emotionally-charged topic and, quite frankly, one I should have known better than to jump into and, thereby, perpetuate. At the pique of frustration I stooped quite low and hurled a couple insults at Catnstuf. I want to openly apologize to him and to any others I may have offended. While I make no apologies for the passion I have or the political positions I hold, I recognize that those who feel differently have an equal right to their positions. What is ultimately most important, at least in this forum, is not what separates us but, rather, what brings us together. . . we all suffer from some form of sleep apnea and are, collectively, better off because of the great advice, support and friendship we all find here. Peace!
Severe (AHI 65.1) Sleep Apnea diagnosed June 2013
Began CPAP use July 10, 2013
Diagnosed with Complex SA in August
Switched to ASV in October

Though I have not involved myself in those threads... I certainly understand. Obama-care is the worst piece of legislation to occur in my lifetime. It will affect everyone in this forum because of the our disease. I accept your apology... and you are a better man than most for apologizing.

rd1978 --

I did not read the threads you refer to, but have the utmost respect for someone that can publicly apologize for something they may have said. It takes an incredibly honest person to write that kind of post.

Kudos.

And -- you're from my hometown! I was raised in Fairfax, VA!!

Sheriff, with all due respect, why did you have to invoke politics when RD1978 was taking the high road in apologizing for his posts in an OT political thread? Sorry, if you think I am jumping on you but it doesn't seem to have occurred to you that some of us desperately need health insurance and are hurting big time without it.
I respect the fact you have great concerns about Obamacare but I request that everyone no matter what their position is to please leave comments about politics out unless it is an OT political thread.

Thank you for your apology rd1978. I totally understand your passion as one who feels differently from you. As you can see, I couldn't stay away from the threads after being out for a few days.

Welcome back!

I hope its understood here that "the opinions expressed in OT threads" will not affect what happens in other posts. You are a good man for apologizing to Cutnstuf: I noticed he hasn't posted on this thread, so hopefully he has read it. Otherwise, you could always PM him. Take care!!

Thank you, rd1978, for your openness, and willingness to accept responsibility.
Sadly, the political threads, like most politicians (both sides) very quickly gravitate to the lowest common denominator;
and if that were not enough, they then proceed to get even lower and much more common than can be imagined.
It is a shame that those with strong opinions choose to monopolize bandwidth provided through the generosity of our hosts with the intent of helping people.
--and that is my rant.

Congratulations ... For being mature enough to do some self reflection and admitting you did not like what you saw. AND THEN taking action. That takes serious courage. Good for you and thank you for take a personal responsibility for helping remind all of us to remain civil. You apology is, as you can see, warmly received and appreciated.

Please keep in mind that some of who HAD insurance are now LOSING that insurance. my contract expired in May. The proposal we are finally voting on is to discontinue holiday pay, require 30 hours for medical benefits (used to be average of 15 hours per week), and of course, nobody will get 30 hours anymore. Therefore, we all lose our insurance. If we vote to go on strike, we have no income. I'll be looking for a job at the same time as 30,000 other people. Great, huh?

Even with the tax credit, I can't afford the new insurance plan. I will have skip the insurance and pay the penalty instead. I will have to buy my cpap supplies online, and I have no idea whether I will be able to afford my medications. I have 4 blood pressure medications, 2 asthma medications, and 2 more as needed medications (asthma cough sometimes, and muscle relaxer for pinched sciatic nerve).

The IDEA of Obama care is great. The logistics, not so much.

This is very much on topic for me as I will now be struggling to pay for supplies. This will affect my cpap treatment a LOT.

rd1978,

I haven't been on the site for a couple of days and so I hadn't seen this thread. Just happened to come on this morning and found your PM. It takes a lot of heart to publicly apologize and I want you to know that I really do appreciate it. We do, after all have things in common too and I want you to know that I defend your right to your thoughts and opinions. I am going to post this in a return PM to you as I want to be sure you get it.

Sincerely
Cut
