Sold: New Respironics System One Auto CPAP DS560 - $400

Post by STL Mark » Thu Sep 05, 2013 3:47 pm

I was able to recently acquire the following unit at a low cost and thought it may be helpful to those of you needing a new machine.

Phillips/Respironics System One REMStar 60 Series Auto CPAP Machine - DS560. This is a new unit that has never been used. It is in perfect condition with the heated humidifier, humidifier tank, hose, power supply, SD card and travel case. The unit has never been exposed to a smoking environment. I will provide free shipping to a US address, or at cost shipping outside the US. References available upon request. $400
----
If you would prefer you can add the upgraded power supply, conversion for humidifier and heated hose. Click Here to order this kit from cpap.com for $75. If you are buying the unit and want this installed for you, I have a kit (purchased from cpap.com) that I will install for you it prior to shipping for only the cost of the kit.
----
This unit has sold. PM me if you would like to be made aware of future machine availability.

I purchased an identical machine from STL Mark. It is perfect, and the service was fantastic. This is an unbelievable deal.

Beware this seller

Post by hansong » Sun Sep 15, 2013 1:48 pm

I've just had a very odd experience with the person selling this CPAP.

I offered to buy it, and set up a payment arrangement. Subsequently, I decided to travel up to St. Louis to pick the thing up because I'm eager to get started on treatment. And subsequent to that my wife informed me I wasn't going to St. Louis because we had a prior engagement.

So I inform Mark we're back to plan A. At which point he tells me he's no longer selling the CPAP because he "thinks it's odd I changed my mind".

Is this reaction a symptom of sleep apnea? I find his behavior extremely odd, and wonder if I had a narrow escape from a shady seller.

hansong.. you are dead wrong..... Mark is a very honest seller and has been around for a long time. Perhaps he thought you were a shady buyer If you care to do some reading on the forum you will find that he has great references from everyone here. ........ and... no, I'm not affiliated with Mark other than to be a member here, I would buy from him in a minute.

Perhaps. But I think I'll stick with legitimate sellers from now on.

Since there is a desire to make this public I will be glad to respond and tell my side of the story. This individual had zero posts on the forum he indicated a desire to buy the machine. There was a statement that he was brand new to CPAP but it seemed like APAP would be a handy thing to have. Initially I decided to proceed with the sale. He wanted to send a check for payment instead of using PayPal and said he needed my address and phone number to key into his bank's check writing service, so I provided him with that information. And at that time marked the machine sold on the forum. This all occurred last night.

Today while I am at church I get a message from him indicating that he would like to stop by tomorrow and pick up the machine. No further description of the change was given. I don't have a problem with meeting people in person but thought it was a bit odd. I asked that we meet in the lobby of a local hotel to handle the sale since my wife was sick and asked him to confirm that this is how it would be done. It was obvious from our message system that he received my message but he never confirmed that he would meet in the lobby of the local hotel. After some time consideration I talked through the entire process of communications with my wife and we both felt that it was strange that a person earlier providing a Tennessee address was going to suddenly be in St. Louis tomorrow to handle the transaction in person. We also found it odd that he never confirmed that he would meet me in a public place after possessing our address and phone number. I then looked up the address in google and it came back to a UPS store in Tennessee.

I decided to send him a message and indicate that after much consideration the machine was no longer for sale and that I would be unable to meet tomorrow. He questioned if he misunderstood something and I responded that I was no longer comfortable with selling the machine. Once I saw that message had been read I immediately had my phone ringing. I got a very abrupt person on the other end of the phone who identified himself and wanted to know why I didn't want to proceed with the sale. I answered his question indicating that the process seemed very strange to me that someone giving a shipping address in another state would suddenly inquire about meeting me tomorrow and that I had become uncomfortable with the sale and decided to not sell the machine.

He proceeded to explain his reasoning even though I didn't request his reasons and indicated that he would not have wanted to do business with me either. I found the entire process very uncomfortable. Then noticed these posts on the forum attempting to discredit me because I would not sell him a machine. I could understand his concern for warning others of a problem if I had taken his money and not delivered or had shipped him a kids toy instead of a machine. But the process of publicly posting messages as revenge because I don't want to sell a machine is wrong.

Mark I can definitely understand why you wouldn't want to sell to a person with a mailbox in TN who said they were coming to St. Louis the next day! Strange.

If the idea of traveling from Memphis to St. Louis seems alarming to you, you really wouldn't like what I do for a living.

When I was in the DC10 I once flew a trip with a guy who lived in Sydney. As in Australia. Now, most of our guys are commuters -- which is to say they don't live in or near Memphis -- but that may have been a record. Should I have put him on report?

My wife commutes to her crew base; in another state, mind you!

By the way, Mark, characterizing my manner as "abrupt" in order to cast your behavior in a better light is consistent with the rest of our conversation.

I've heard of parochialism, but this takes the cake. I think this forum isn't for me.

Why was there even a phone conversation? The outcome was clear. You wanted to hear it in person and I delivered the news. The idea of a phone call seems like a gesture to intimidate rather than clarify what had been stated.
