I live in Toronto and have used 2 places for products. One is Vital Aire in Mississauga which supplies RESMED products and the other is Medigas in Markham which provides Respironics products.

Hi! I a canuck! I'm from Toronto and have been on a cpap for over a year now.

I was reffered to RestAssure Inc. of Woodbridge Ontario. http://www.restassure.ca by Dr. Bain of the Toronto East General Sleep Clinic.

Dealing with RestAssure Inc. was NOT a good experience.

I live in Toronto, and have been on CPAP for about a month. Praxair had an office right outside the sleep lab, and I just walked into it after the sleep doc. gave me my script. I didn't know anything about CPAP, etc. They sold me a Fisher & Paykel 604 with humidifier, and a ComfortClassic mask for about 1300.00. Ohip paid 780.00 and insurance paid the rest. I have to say that so far I have been quite successful with this setup, after a few days of adjustments on the mask, & I haven't slept so soundly in years. And my wife doesn't miss the snoring! Tonight, I'm going for the follow-up study (with machine) and it will be interesting to see if any adjustments are made to the pressure. My pressure is 7CM and I ramp up to it, since I find it hard to breathe against it to begin with, but OK once I'm asleep. I wonder what will happen if I need an APAP or Bi-Pap - if Praxair will take back this machine. I still think I was over-charged, but I guess they think the gov't can afford it. I'll keep u posted.

Steve.

I am not in Canada, but had to stick my nose in here. I have lived in a US boarder town though and pass through your lovely country annually (NY to Michigan to see family).

You don't need someone to change the pressure on a machine. Do it yourself. If the doctor orders a pressure change, take the prescription and say ok. Then go home and make the change. Very easy on most machines. Far easier than programming my VCR for a show I will have to miss on TV.

As for service. I know that there are travel issues for those of you in places like Toronto (quite a ways to the US around the lake) but depending on the amount of insurance coverage you have you may be able to buy 2 machines (one back up) for the prices some of you folks are kicking around. Others I notice seem to have coverage that makes the Canadian DME prices for a machine comparable to Cpap.com prices. I believe Cpap.com services (or at least honors the warrenty). Depending on whether you have friends in the US or have a postal box it might be something to look into.

Cpap.com's web site states that it takes foreign prescriptions, but has limitations on some shipping (Resmed to Canada is one I have seen).

I would suggest that if you want your xPAP machine fixed, contact the manufacturer of the machine and see if they have a repair depot or a subcontractor shop that does their work for them close by to you.
