Stupid Quastion #82

Post by pikov22 » Mon Sep 09, 2013 11:32 am

Since we all have air forced into our lungs, why do we still need to inhale?

(Told you it was a stupid question!)

It's NOT being FORCED into your lungs. These "flow generators" create enough air flow to SPLINT your airway open so you can breathe on your own.

Only a "ventilator" can generate enough air flow and pressure to do what your question asked.

because your lungs have to do all this: http://science.howstuffworks.com/life/h ... /lung3.htm the machine can't do all that.

also your brain has regulatory functions in breathing that the machine can't do.

interesting question though. not dumb.

This only happens with some kind of ventilator system otherwise the process of inhaling creates a low pressure zone in the lungs and higher pressure ambient air flows in.

When we exhale, we pressurize the lungs and the then higher pressure air flows out.

Most folks call that breathing

Thanks. I checked -- 14 cm H2O is 0.2 psi. If your tire had 0.2 psi, it would be flat!!
