Why does this happen? ASV

Post by sleepinow » Sat Sep 07, 2013 11:28 am

Why after increasing my EPAP pressure from 5.0 to 5.5 does my PS level drop by 0.5 after such changes(As shown by Sleepyhead). So my PS sits at a 9.50 rather than 10.0 where it once was.

If I increase the PSMax from 5.0 to 5.5 would that solve the problem? Would there be any issues in getting used to this *new setting like adapting to this new setting? Oh and if anyone can explain why it lowers after changing EPAP that would be great.

Where are you seeing the drop? In the statistics...that may be the usual setting bug. No way to fix it that I know of.

On the graphs themselves??? Try this...go to Preferences/Appearance tab and remove the check mark from "use Pixmap caching" and see if that resolves the graph issue..if that is what you are referring to.

Yes it is in the statistics. So my machine's setting did not change in any way, is that correct? (I am worrying too much over this)

Your machine settings are reflected on the machine itself. What you see on the machine is what you get and should be reflected in the graphs.

SleepyHead Statistics page is well known to have some weird data settings showing that aren't correct. Known bug. I don't really pay much attention to that page except for reference for when a change was made in a setting and not the setting change itself.
here's a screen shot of mine in this thread.

I'm a bit confused. At one point you say that your PS is 9.5, and used to be 10.0. At another place you say PSMax = 5.0 or 5.5. How can your PS be larger than PSMax?

So can you clarify some things:

Old settings:
EPAP = 5.0
Min PS = ??
Max PS = ??
Min IPAP = ??
Max IPAP = ??

New settings:
EPAP = 5.5
Min PS = ??
Max PS = ??
Min IPAP = ??
Max IPAP = ??

I suspect that what you're talking about is that your MAX PS settiing dropped from 10.0 to 9.5 when you increased the EPAP by 0.5. If you left the Min IPAP and Max IPAP setting unchanged, then an increase in EPAP would indeed reduce the Max PS by a corresponding amount. For example:

EPAP = 5.0 and Max IPAP = 15.0 means that Max PS can be set to as much as 10.0 since
  • Max PS <= (Max IPAP - EPAP) = 15.0 - 5.0 = 10.0.
EPAP = 5.5 and Max IPAP = 15.0 means that Max PS can be set to as much 9.5 as since
  • Max PS <= (Max IPAP - EPAP) = 15.0 - 5.5 = 9.5.
So---if your MAX PS was set to MAX IPAP - EPAP and you changed EPAP without changing MAX IPAP, then the MAX PS setting would be forced to be reduced by the same amount as you increased the EPAP setting.
