Good Grief: nothing got recorded last night - humidifier?

Post by ellen1159 » Mon Aug 26, 2013 7:52 am

Tried using the Wisp nasal mask last night and lasted four hours. It felt hard to breathe and stuffy, even with regular humidification. For some reason I guess I kept my mouth closed for the two hours I slept, because my mouth was not dry when I woke up.

When I checked the SD card nothing was recorded. Encore basic just showed a thick black line "Breathing not detected" for the whole time, no numbers recorded except pressures of 15 and 19. Then I rememberd that when I went to remove the water tank from the humidifer, the lid of the humidifier was not closed all the way (but the water was mostly gone).

Could that have been why the machine didn't record anything? Or perhaps a defect in the mask or the way it was assembled?

The circuit was open and that's why no breathing detected. I am surprised the noise didn't alert you.

Likely so.

If the humidifier lid is open, even partially, the blower sends the air to the humidifier, out that opening and into the night.
It never sees your respirations since there is little to no back pressure generated by breathing out. The lid is what connects the hose to the air flow from the blower.

I think you just experienced using your mask with very little air flow from your machine. The data recorded indicates that "no breathing was detected".

What kind of a noise? Louder than usual rush of air? I also had the radio on to classical music but it was just loud enough to be heard over the air sound.

Yes, louder than the usual rush of air.
Might not have been horribly loud though like I get when I do the same thing. I think it depends on just how "not sealed" the circuit is.
I have had times where the seal was so bad that the machine wouldn't even come on and other times where it sounded like a freight train.

Did you push the button to turn the machine on or did you let your respirations trigger the blowing of the air?
With my Auto On feature it simply won't come on if the lid isn't shut but it will come on if I push the button.

I wouldn't worry about it though. I am real sure that the "no breathing detected" message was related to the humidifier lid not being quite sealed and had nothing to do with mask.
Of course Murphy's Law happenings always mean that this sort of thing happens when we REALLY want to see the data.
Sort of like when we REALLY want to see the flow rate graph data and realize the SD card wasn't inserted fully...any other time we probably wouldn't have cared.

no such luck. I just had the lid open on the humidifier.

Pugsy, I turned the machine on manually.

Well, better luck tonight.
