Weird Weirdness and More Newbie Expiriences

Post by ThisIsMyUserName » Thu Aug 22, 2013 7:04 pm

So I'm about a month in. Still using the machine every night, though I'm getting a little sick of it. Today and yesterday I've been really exhausted, despite getting over 8 hours last night. I now keep my mask on almost all nights (in the beginning I was unconsciously taking it off midway through the night), missing an hour here and there. I know I'm better than a month ago, since the nights where I miss a significant amount of mask time I wake up feeling totally wrecked, but it's amazing how many levels of wrecked there are, since I'm way better, but still awful. The latest weirdness is my mask behavior under a slight pressure change. I titrated at 5 (cm h2o or whatever the units are), but the doc suggested I try upping it to six to see if I have lower AHI. I did have lower AHI (about 0.9 on 6 vs 2.5 on 5), but didn't sleep well: first, I didn't like the higher pressure. But also, my mask (the Pilairo nose pillows) made all kinds of weird sounds; sort of a constant tick-tick-ticking really fast, and a high pitched whistle whenever I breathed out. Weird, right? So weird I thought the mask was dying rather than associate it with the higher pressure, so it took a while before I went back to 5. Indeed, the sounds went away completely. I thought the Pilairo was good until really high pressures, but I guess not, or I got a bad one, or I'm doing something wrong. Anyway, I am still sticking with it. This would all be a lot easier if I felt better quicker, but I'm going to stick with this. The fact that I am exhausted after so many hours of normal sleep, I think, is just evidence of how badly my sleep was me to that. the first place, and I'm not going back to that.

I am new also. A little over 2 months. I also use the pilairo and love it. I remember when I first started using it it made alot of noise. But as I got use it adjusting it the noise got better. If you are having alot of noise check it for leaks. Mine had come off the bottom hook a little and it made some weird noises. It does make some nose when you breathe but I guess I have gotten use to it now. Sometimes it bothers me but sometimes I wake up in the morning and wonder if it is still working. My sleep study showed me at AHI 38.6 and now I am down to usually 1.5 to 2.5 sometimes I have had a 3 but usually that is when I have been awake alot laying there. As for feeling better I do feel better but not the dramatic increase like some people get. I think I was so bad it is just going to take some time. But, even thought I am not completely back to my old self I am so much better that the day I started wearing the clap. My pressure is 5 on exhale and 11 on inhale.

I hope this helps. This forum is a great place to learn so much and it has really experienced people who actually care and will help you out. Good luck.

I stayed on track for a couple of years and didn't even take a nap without my gear on. I did feel better and didn't fall asleep every time I sat still and no longer had the urge to take a nap on my way home from work. I never really had a big boost of energy or anything like that. I had an emergency come up and had to sleep without my cpap for a couple of nights. I felt like total crap. I never want to go thought that again. I guess not everyone will have that great boost of energy we all crave. It did finally happen for me but that is another story. It has been very beneficial to my life. I don't get too hung up on numbers I just concern myself with feeling better.

Post your equipment and data and you will get a lot of help here.
