Resmed Auto or Fisher Paykel

Post by LisaSch » Wed Aug 21, 2013 11:19 am

So today I got my own machine and the choice was the Resmed Auto or the Fisher Paykel. The Fisher machine hooks to the Internet and does its magic in the cloud and sends reports to tech or doctor. Sounded good but did not appear to let me see my own info unless the tech emailed to me the report. I picked the other one...I am hoping this time my SD card will be readable after I try to read it myself. The tech said if I change my own settings he is liable as there is no proof who set the settings and should something happen...he could be blamed. He said I am the only one he has met who was interested in managing my own machine.

You got taken advantage of if you got the escape. It only offers compliance data. Take it back and get the elite model. Also it is not an auto, if you want auto get the S9 Autoset.

Fisher & Paykel makes a fine, quality APAP machine, with features similar to the other brands, including heated tubing -- and no, you can get data off their chip with the right software.

Plus the F&P has a nice clock display feature and plays music -- which, for something that sits on the nightstand, could be a big plus.

I wish my PR auto had one!

Amazing how the people who design these things don't actually ever seem to use them.

Alas it is hard to compare sound levels, etc. unless you have used both, which most people don't get a chance to.

Which ResMed Auto did you get?
The Escape Auto or the AutoSet? If the Autoset then you are home free and won't be disappointed.
Here's the manual for the AutoSet that you can download.
http://www.apneuvereniging.nl/forum/pdf ... manual.pdf
The factory default for recording the detailed data to the SD card is for summary usage only...so you will want to make sure that it is changed...so go to the clinical menu setup area and make sure that Sleep Quality is set to "On" and not the default from factory "Usage".

The Escape Auto is an auto adjusting pressure machine but the only data it will show is gross AHI...no event categories and no leaks or anything else useful.

The F & P machine is probably a very decent machine in terms of effectiveness but the software is a real PITA to use and SleepyHead works okay only with the Icon (not the other F & P machines) and the data that is collected by the full data machines isn't as comprehensive as the data you can get with the AutoSet.

Everyone wondering about the Escape showing in her profile....that was the temporary machine that she was using...and she knows the limitations to that model machine. She just hasn't changed her profile yet to reflect the new machine she picked up today.

Yes, I just redid my profile. It took me a while to find it. So I got the S9 Autoset. I may need help to find that menu you suggested.

hold the silver button with the two check marks on it, plus the big round button down at the same time for 3 seconds. then you get into the clinical setup menu. turn the big button to get to whichever setting you want to change. hope this helps.

I did that...I get to the proper item but once I select it what do I push that gets it to go to the ON position? I tried about everything and it stays the same.

once you highlight it, turn the knob for your choices. then push the knob down again to "save" your selection. hope that makes sense. the clinical manual, in my estimation, isn't clear about this stuff.

Oh, that worked. I had to turn the knob the opposite way. What does turning this to ON do exactly?
