Here's the stupid question.........On the AHI number......is that per hour or per night??

I understand feeling stupid tho... esp on a forum with people who are experienced and know their way around. There is much to learn, and much to remember. Not easy with brain fog.
Keep asking! The more we ask, the more others will ask, the more we'll all know.

Re: I have a really stupid question
It's actually an average for the night. If you have 14 events, 5 of them in a one hour period, but the total are spread out over 7 hours of sleep your AHI will be 2.0 for the night. If you graph the data, the hour you have 5 the AHI will be 5, but that is for just that one hour. If you have no events for a particular hour then the AHI for that hour will be zero. The machine shows the average for the entire night when you look at the screen in the morning. The average is what the docs look at.Country4ever wrote:I think my bad cpap numbers are really getting to me. I can't even think straight or find answers for myself........

Re: I have a really stupid question
Thanks idamtnboy. That makes sense.
Can I deduce anything from just the machine numbers? If my AHI is 9 for the night......I guess that could mean a couple hours were higher than that, and a couple could have been much lower? I guess it could also mean that I had a low AHI for many hours, but had a ridiculously high one for a copule hours? I guess that's the good reason to get the software. My machine is getting old, and when I upgrade, I'll definitely get the software. Several years ago it was sort of illegal to get the software (for Resmed), now I'm thinking its more available.
Thanks for your help!

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people. I had a lot of similar questions starting out.Country4ever wrote:I think my bad cpap numbers are really getting to me. I can't even think straight or find answers for myself........

The only way we get smarter is by acquiring knowledge. Keep asking, others will benefit by your questions, and the answers given.

Re: I have a really stupid question
Don't worry about individual nights, let alone hours. Look for trends. Is your AHI/RDI going down? Do you feel rested when you get up? Are you sluggish during the day? Is that getting any better?Country4ever wrote:Thanks idamtnboy. That makes sense.

My opinion (and that of a number of sleep specialists).
