Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
I only get night sweats during the summer time.
Lately I haven't been having my nightly head and upper torso soaking since I turned up my Bipap pressures a little to help with the snore problem.
I do keep the house on the warm side at 82 all night, but it seems comfortable, especially with the ceiling fan on.
All this because I have been trying to track down the answer to my Very High Vibratory Snore rate (358-511).
Hoping that perhaps a lower Vib. Snore rate will help me sleep longer; I am lucky to get 6 hours.
At least I don't wake up drenched lately.
So far I have not been able to correlate the higher pressures with a lower Vib. rate. the Vib rate seems lower if I go back to sleep, but still not good. I went from 10/10 to 14/11 and saw minor improvements. The humidifier seems to be working well.
The Vib Snore numbers:
10/10...463...512
10/12...335...468
11/13...431...358
11/14...468 ...next data
Anybody out there won the Vibratory Snore battle?

Re: Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
Could we see an image of a typical night's daily detailed report?
If snores are present in large numbers then typically an increase in pressure is needed to combat them.
So maybe you need more than the 1 cm increase from 10 to 11 on your EPAP.

I should have titled this thread,"night sweats gone/ but not snores"
I have seen it done but I don't know how to do that. Instruction on how to do that?
Thanks

How to post images of reports....screen shots. Treat them like photos and upload to some place like Photobucket or Flickr.
Explained with examples in this thread.

Re: Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
Hi,
Here are the images, I hope. Some progress has been made with increasing my pressures past 10/10. I remember trying the Bipap Auto feature long ago but I was still experiencing major mask issues then, so it was a bust.
Also, perhaps the Epap is just as important as the Ipap in cutting snores?
I also could try taping my mouth again for a night. Some on other venues would be pleased by that thought.
I am open to ideas.

Re: Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
Those snores are so bad that it makes me wonder if they are real or not.
Do you have a spouse who can confirm the snores?
Actually EPAP is VERY important but in your situation...I wonder if the snores are real.
If real and in auto mode the machine will increase pressure trying to prevent them.
Even when you had times with flat leak line you had a solid bar of snores...so I don't think we can call them a bunch of face farts.
Do you use a hose cozy or route your hose over your head...or let it lay on the bed?
Here are the reports.

Q--Do you have a spouse who can confirm the snores?
A--No. And it is not a good enough reason to get married again.
Q--Do you use a hose cozy or route your hose over your head...or let it lay on the bed?
A--The hose goes over my head and slides on a rope, strung between bed posts, if I move sideways on the bed.
I went to sleep last night with out replacing the data card so we will see tonight. That's what fatigue will do. I even made a separate trip downstairs to get it.
I did set the machine on Bipap Auto mode and slept like a rock. Also I upped the Epap pressure settings by one to 12/14, to be sure.
Tonight will give me more data.
I am not going back to the mouth tape just yet.
Thanks for your patience and posting the links as pictures; I did not do it correctly, somehow.

Perhaps I did not set the card in correctly but somehow there is no new data this morning. I downloaded two times, same result.
Frustrating, for now.

Re: Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
Perhaps the smart card was not inserted fully last night.
Listen for the beep. Single beep means it is inserted correctly. No beep means not inserted fully and multiple beeps you can't miss because they are annoying and means the card is inserted backwards or something.
Most often we miss the single beep's absence.
Also the M series was known for sometimes missing a night of data and Murphy's Law says it has to be a night that you really want to see. Should this persist after tonight...use the software to erase the card so that we start with a clean card. That's what we used to do when we had missing data and we knew with absolute certainty the smart card was inserted correctly. I had it happen to me so I know it can happen.
You are sleeping better though??? That's very good.
Let's see what tonight shows.
I am wondering if the snores are some sort of artifact and maybe not real.
I agree...confirming snores with a spouse is not a good enough reason to go spouse hunting.
Wonder if we can find some sort of recording device to listen for them...
App on cell phone maybe?? I think there are such things.
While it is possible for something moving on the hose to create noise that the machine may think is a snore, I would think it would be rare for it to be present for the entire night in the magnitude that we are seeing with your snores.
I am scratching my head here because to have that many snores (assuming they are the real deal) I would think your other data would be more exciting.
Regarding the images.
When you copy the last line in that box of addresses at photobucket..just paste that line in the body of your post...it already has the needed IMG brackets included so you don't need to add the brackets from the editor box. Saves you a step.
That's all you did wrong...you just included a step that wasn't needed.
So use the last line in the box of addresses and don't add a thing to it in your post and images should show up once you hit submit or you can use preview button to view them.

Reply,
I would raise both pressures gradually 1 cm at a time till IPAP =16 and EPAP= 13 and see if VS stops.
p.s. my room temp is also at 82F. Occasionally, I sweat probably b/c I am borderline diabetic. Often I change my T shirts 3 times a night. Nothing to do with my APAP pressure. Salty food (Pitsa) could cause it. But I don't snore:

Re: Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
OK, here is the data, I did notice that one of the wires was half unplugged into the machine. I also "rebooted" the machine, I don't normally turn it off--as in disconnecting power. Thanks for the input above, but you will have a hard time convincing me that the higher pressure and less sweating are unrelated. Perhaps I was struggling with respiration at some level and that caused the increased metabolism? Anyway it (night-sweats) is better now by at least 95% and I am grateful.
Back on topic, the little added Epap pressure did nothing, still 300's are better than 500's. I will have to recheck the bipap AUTO settings I thought I set to on. Perhaps my limits are too small or perhaps I did it wrong.
I was going to make a joke about putting less quarters into the vibrating bed when I realized that I do have one wild possible source for the vibration. Some in my family have a slight tremor. With me it is confined to my left hand-80% and barely perceptible in the right when at its worst. I take no medication for it, nor need any. No other parts of my body vibrate that I am aware of. Also the better I sleep, the less is the tremor. Lately it has been almost to zero. As I look at my left hand right now I can't notice it. I don't think it is to blame but I thought I should at least throw it out there as a distant possibility.
I will increase the Ipap and Epap pressures tonight by one.

Re: Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
When you check your settings in the clinical menu...if you do indeed have it in auto mode...maybe you have the IPAP max limited and thus making the machine function like fixed bilevel mode.
In other words in auto mode....if you set EPAP to 12 and and IPAP max to 14...that is going to make it work like a fixed pressure machine. To make it function with the auto adjusting pressures in auto bilevel mode you need to allow IPAP to have some room to roam about...say 16 IPAP max but leave EPAP at 12. It's a small range but would show is movement if the machine was wanting to fix those snores. If it doesn't want to fix them then I would assume that they are some sort of artifact.
So check your settings and make sure you aren't in fixed bilevel mode...the absence of an FL being flagged on your report points to fixed mode and not auto mode. In fixed mode FL flags are turned off.
There should be 3 choices if you have the BiPap Auto....cpap mode, bilevel mode and auto bilevel mode.
I will share this story....I was having bands of snores quite similar to yours but for only an hour or two. I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on because I didn't think I was snoring. They were sometimes there and sometimes not...come to find out they were showing up when my little pug dog was sleeping up on the pillow with his little chin resting on my shoulder. The machine was picking up his snores/vibrations and flagging them but the machine wasn't increasing the pressure during this time because there weren't any flow limitations going along with it. So the machine can pick up outside vibrations and snores by mistake when the conditions are right.

Re: Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
That was a unique story about your pug. Also interesting how that reflects on the technology.
The card is not giving me anything new this morning. I did again notice that the power plug was not in all the way as I took the card out. Perhaps I am doing that as I twist the machine around to see my changes in the low wattage light I use by my bed. I have to go through the reset procedure of plugging in with the buttons pressed 5-6 times before it finally gives me the "inside" screen. Not sure of whether to press the +/- or the arrows at this point, I forget which actually ends up working. It seems like neither works at first until I do it several times.
I can tell you that the machine was going crazy last night, chasing snores I assume. At one point the nasal pillow part was pulled out of its holder in the mask and it was a gusher. It is a trick to get that seated back into the mask in the dark; especially while the machine is in gale force mode.
I am thinking I will have to go back to the mouth tape as I woke up with a dry mouth and could tell that I had leakage there from the increased pressure.
I will do everything right tonight with the card, but not change any other settings. There seems to be only two choices on my machine of bipap or bipap-auto, it must be an old one. All my machines are "used" but this is the only bipap and the only one that collects good data. even the card from the other "M" will not work in this machine. I did change the range, it was set too low at 8 and 12. Now I think I set it to 12 and 16. Perhaps I need to pick up a bipap "vacation/spare" and get rid of the other two.
We will see tomorrow.

Re: Night sweats less/ but not snores with increased pressures
You know it's possible that a sensor is whacko on that old bipap.....like the snore sensor.
Maybe it's picking up some vibration within the machine or something.
I didn't know you were having issues with the power and all that...maybe it is ailing...
Anyway...if funds permit you might ditch the other back ups and get yourself one of the newer PR S1 BiPaps...either the 750 or 760 (which is the latest with the heated hose and all). I will send you a PM in just a bit about a possible source.
