In your opinion, which are the 3 best APAPS on the market today?

Is this a trick question?

CPAP.COM lists three total.
  • Remstar Auto
    PB 420E
    Resmed S8 Vantage
CPAPMAN Adds
  • DeVilbiss RPM AutoAdjust
    ResMed AutoSet Spirit
    PV 10i Self-Adjusting Intelligent CPAP
It's not too large a population so I guess I would have to say the first three sort of by default. Like it was clear in another post - what does best mean?

They are all different but "best" is pretty subjective.

Ford, Chibie, and Crysler, in that order. But I want a truck. Jim

I wouldn't necessarily say the best 3 (even though they are IMO) but more appropriately the most popular.

1. Respironics REMstar Auto

2. Resmed S8 Auto

3. Puritan Bennett 420E Auto .

Linda,

Am not sure how you believe people can seriously answer this unless they have tried each over time. But am sure we all know that is an unlikely scenario.

You could ask "which do people think are the 3 best autos"

You would get more meaningful replies. Now to that question I would answer
"I think they are the Remstar Auto, the Resmed Auto & probably the PB420e"

Cheers

The Puritan Bennett 420E. It's the only one on the market that has a flow limitation setting and also the only one that will detect central apneas by sensing a heartbeat through an open airway.

I wouldn't have a clue to which is best .
But I would like to know what the difference is between ResMed S8 AutoSet spirit (thats the one Im trying at the moment ) and The ResMed S8 Vantage
Is the AutoSet Spirit just the latest modal of the Vantage.
Unless you had the chance to try em all ,how would ya know which is best and then ya still might not know.
I have to decide if I am going to but the one I now or something else in about 3 weeks .
I can buy what every one I chose .
So how do I chose ?
I will probably go with the one I have because I know no better
Any suggestions are welcome
Thanks Jacko

I would like an auto travel model and am considering 420E but read a few postings of people having problems with it, I think 2 of them had stopped working altho new. Not had chance to get on line as much so lost track of what happened.
sorry to the "concerned" ones amongst us -I have not signed in, need to get a new password, memory probs still!
Hope they got the problems resolved.

Ms. Piggy,

I've had my P&B 420e since January 2006 and haven't had any problems. I love the small design and it seems to work really well for me. I'm planning on getting a backup P&B 420e in the near future. I have no worries about the quality of this wonderful machine.

Ms. Piggy, like sleepylady, I've had no problem with the reliablility of the two 420E autopaps I've used. Why two? No, the first one didn't quit...after a year of good treatment, I gave it to someone who needed that particular machine. Got me another one.

If I'm not mistaken, at least one person who has posted repeatedly on more than one message board about two 420E's that died soon after he got them was using some of the first ones that came off the manufacturing line "way back when."

ALL of the cpap manufacturers have some that have to be repaired or replaced, but most work fine for many years...from any of the manufacturers. If it were me, I'd pick whichever one had the features I wanted rather than dismiss any of them on the basis of a problem here and there.

I'd skip ResMed, though, because I'm not happy with what they are, in effect, forcing the internet dealers to do regarding the price of ResMed products. But that's a whole other ballgame and has nothing to do with quality.
