I have seen that. You have to laugh or cry.

I was talking to the maintenance man that works for the people that own the building where I have my shop. He was talking about how many people they had laid off. I asked him why and he said they were cutting back to less than 50 employees due to the new health care system. He said some of the workers were having to work four hours each at two locations to be able to stay on full time. I am not sure how many buildings they own but it is a lot.

Laughter - the whole world is laughing at you.

And then they cry because, by the gods, you guys can't even get something simple like your health care to work and you expect to dictate policy all over the world?

Rather than have employees, many companies have "contractors"--and have for years.
Even people who participate in medical testing are often in this class.
This way the lab is not held responsible for unforeseen effects; like illness or death.
Poor folks get pushed around terribly, and then under the bus they go!

Why do I get the feeling that Canadians have an extreme dislike for American. Please someone tell me I am wrong. I don't like thinking that at all.

Hmm, I have a totally different perspective. In my opinion, they are criticizing the fact that we seem to be the only country who has difficulty providing universal healthcare to all its citizens. Of course you may disagree but I feel that just because you criticize an aspect of a country's policies doesn't mean you have an extreme dislike for its citizens.

It is jealousy. They don't like that we get all the attention and have creative industries that do not exist in Canada, like motion pictures, TV, novels, popular music - they have to watch all our stuff because they don't produce art themselves.

They even keep up closely with our politics and economy. They are fascinated but still jealous.

They sure like to come here to shop and vacation. Their kids dream of going to university in U.S. and immigrating to live out their lives.

Canada is a nice country, I love it there, particularly the Canadian Rockies and the west coast. I could live there but I would want full access to travel in U.S. and full access to all the U.S. media.

For some bitter Canadians it seems like this is stuffed down their throat. But then you have the majority who love to visit U.S. and enjoy everything we offer the world.

You have to ignore jealousy.

Jealousy? I don't think so.

"They don't like that we get all the attention and have creative industries that do not exist in Canada, like motion pictures, TV, novels, popular music - they have to watch all our stuff because they don't produce art themselves."

This sentence makes me grin from ear to ear because it has absolutely no truth in it. Canada produces internationally renowned musicians, artists, dancers, film directors, writers, novelists and more. Ever read any of Margaret Atwood's, Mordecei Richlers' or Michael Ondaatje's novels, watched any of Atom Egoyan's films, listened to music by Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion, Joni Mitchell, Crash Test Dummies, Leonard Cohen and on and on and on ? ...

It's never wise to paint a whole nation with the same paintbrush. For one thing, there is no 'winner.'

Best wishes from your friendly neighbour to the north! And yes, we spell 'neighbour' differently but it has the same meaning.

P.S. I thought this was a forum to help folks with CPAP therapy, not a place to bash one another. Cheers.

If you think pointing out stupidity and character flaws equals extreme dislike you need to stay out of political threads and keep away from anyone who might critique you.

Justin Beiber amongst others.

No we are not jealous, we are concerned the "elephant" next door decides to roll over.

The only reason you get all the attention is because everyone winches at the giant toddler throwing tantrums, an armed, giant toddler with the gimmees and a huge chip on its shoulder. One who doesn't like it when it is ignored or critiqued.

A great deal of top line talent originates in Canada--more so than in the States, sad to say.
However, I do not believe that includes Celine Dion.

True, she comes from Quebec, and still lives there, which sometimes does not consider itself part of Canada.

Oh and so does Captain Kirk.
