These "doctors" should be slapped on the backside of their heads for these comments.
After reading your comments, I should feel fortunate for the staff I have regarding all issues including sleep apnea. *humbly stated*

Sleep Dr: "Well, maybe you should try just going to sleep earlier". I did get the sleep study and my AHI was 121 (yes, one hundred twenty one!). Going to bed earlier wouldn't have helped!!

We normally don't give out prescriptions for Auto Cpap units. Patients don't tend to stay with therapy after getting those and we see very few of them again.

It took awhile before I could appreciate the humor in the above statement. That was from doctor number 2 of 4 prior to my first sleep study. I went around and interviewed them before deciding where to get my test.

Number one or three said something like "oh you won't need a prescription, we will give you a machine on the visit following your test".

In response to my concerns about snoring while on the machine, which I have recorded audio of and the RT concerned by the snore data recorded by my machine:
Looks at titration report
"That's not happening, you stop snoring at a pressure of six."
Subsequent to that, I had my regularly scheduled RT appointment, where I was lent a 460 (because that DME location was out of 560s) to "review the heated hose" and was advised that I shouldn't "spend too much time on auto". And about an hour after that RT appointment, my family doctor referred me to a second sleep clinic for a second opinion, who have since claimed me as one of their patients.

Yup, yup, KTeague. My insistence on accepting only a fully data capable PAP resulted in a comment the equivalent of "You're just the patient, you don't need to know that. It is sufficient that I as the doctor receive that information."
But, they NEVER receive that information - because they do NOT want it !

And of course if you don't have a fully data capable machine - HOW IS THE DOCTOR GOING TO GET THAT INFO?

Family doctor, on my comment that I was not sleeping because pain woke me every three hours: "Just stop stuffing your face and LOSE SOME WEIGHT, and it will ALL CLEAR UP."

Family doctor, on my comment about joint pain: "Just stop stuffing your face and LOSE SOME WEIGHT, and it will ALL CLEAR UP."

Family doctor, in my presenting with symptoms of uterine cancer: "Just stop stuffing your face and LOSE SOME WEIGHT, and it will ALL CLEAR UP."

Family doctor, after pain from cancer surgery failed to go away, "Just stop stuffing your face and LOSE SOME WEIGHT, and it will ALL CLEAR UP." And, "But since you have a problem with getting off pain medication, I'm sending you to a pain management doctor."

Pain management doctor, after being told about 7+ years of disturbed sleep, "I'm sending you for a sleep test." After test: "Yep, you have it."

Family doctor, when RBC dropped after two months on proper therapy, "Your red blood cell count has dropped! That means you're bleeding inside! Your cancer has returned! You must have a colonoscopy at once! If you would have just stopped stuffing your face and LOST SOME WEIGHT, you wouldn't be in this condition. You've brought this on yourself!"

Me: Couldn't it be the fact that I'm finally getting enough oxygen at night?"

Family doctor: "Oh no! It's the cancer!" (After the colonoscopy, which showed perfect health) "Well, it MIGHT have been!"

Dori,

I fired the family doctor after the episode with the colonoscopy in 2009. I get along ok with the new GP. I'm now looking for a new gyn after being told that the reason a pap smear left me in pain for three weeks was because my buttocks were too fat.

My oncologist is a really cool lady. (Really! Discussing "The Hobbit" with you while doing all sorts of dire things to you?)

Current project is to make a liar out of the orthopedist who says I'll need a knee replacement in another year or so. If he thought JSSYFALSOAIWACU, he at least didn't SAY it.

<wry grin> I've never laid eyes on a sleep doctor. What I know about making my therapy a success, I learned right here!

Sleep Dr after 90 days on the mask: I can't read the data off of your card, but I talked to the tech and you have already reached compliance so it doesn't matter. Come back in 6 months. Bye.

I'll think about seeing a sleep Dr in 6 months, but not her.

Primary Doc: "If your PLMD is continuing then go back to the sleep center and have them adjust your CPAP settings." ( Like changing the humidity or adjusting the pressure which was just determined 3 weeks ago is going to help with leg movements).

She just got fired.

RT, re Mirage Quattro: Never adjust the Velcro straps from how I set them. Just turn the forehead dial.

Sleep doc fired her, but that was strike 1 against his practice.
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI
