mask ruining my looks
mask ruining my looks
I have been using it for a number of years but my mask ( pillow type) is ruining my looks. I have large bags under my eyes and the strap has given me scalp irritation. Does anyone have any suggestions or info? thanks Sam C
Re: mask ruining my looks
Which mask?
Padacheek makes some nice covers for the straps.
Or change masks. This one that I use had no head gear at all.

From cpap.com it comes with free return insurance. If you hate it get it back to them within 30 days and you get your money back.

Eye bags are very likely to be from another condition.

Post both pictures, the mask might be a improvement. We do what we do (xpap) to have better health and a longer life, I don't let my looks affect my life. I it starts, I'll cover the mirrors. Jim

Re: mask ruining my looks
When you are pushing 70 you won't worry about your looks, cuz you aren't gonna impress anybody anyhow. Actually the bags under my eyes have diminished since I started CPAP (with nasal pillows).
Re: mask ruining my looks
Nothing ruins your looks like face powder applied by an undertaker.
Be thankful for the CPAP and that you are healthy enough to be concerned about such things.

The bags under my eyes come in handy, I store my xpap machine filters in them. Jim

Some helpful answers there!
I also had problems with the straps and my eyes. It wasn't a "looks" issue, it was that the straps pressed in on the sides and this was causing occasional corneal abrasions. Not good when one practically fails life without contact lenses!
Suggestion: Have you tried Tap-Pap? No straps!

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
Re: mask ruining my looks
The scalp irritation, just now starting after a number of years, may be just a sign that a good soap and warm water wash is due.sam1 wrote:I have been using it for a number of years but my mask ( pillow type) is ruining my looks. Not a very sympathetic crowd here.
I’m 55 yo. Keep myself in great shape. First time meeting with doctors, they often admit to thinking they have the wrong examination room as they are looking for a much older patient.I use a Respironics Wisp nasal pillow mask, the most contactless mask. But I’ve used the face mask, too. The best thing you can do is train yourself to sleep on back, which keeps mask from moving around, and pressing into face. The weight of it alone resting on your face makes it possible to depend less on tight straps. Anything soft you can put between contact parts helps. Sticking a couple of cheap, small facecloths-rolled up- and slid under straps at temples can keep mask snug and the side straps off face. Who says one can’t improve the fit themselves?
BTW, It helped enormously, while training myself to sleep on back, using one of those travel pillows( donut shape) behind head; it cradles and curbs head movement. I’ve actually come to find it more comfortable than on side, which can actually give me a sore hip in the morning.
I don’t feel ready to give in to old age!
