just got my sleep report

Post by oak » Mon Jul 22, 2013 3:32 pm

Hi, I just got my sleep report from my primary doc and of course I didnt have questions until after she left and the nurse gave me the report copy. I dont think she would have been able to answer them anyway, as she is not a sleep doc. She doesnt want to refer me to a sleep doc unless I am having poor results after a couple of months.

I am hoping someone here can shed some light on these questions:

1. The report says my sleep latency was "33 minutes, which is prolonged." What does that mean?
2. no REM was observed either before or after titration. none all night. How common is this during a sleep study?
3. it says my heart rate average was 70.6 but that it went up to 149 at some point. Is this as bad as it sounds?
4. what is RDI?
5. Under sleep architecture, it says Stage N1 18%, Stage N2 30%, Stage N3 52%, stage R (I assume this is REM) 0%, and Stage WASO 71.5%. What does stage WASO mean?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Sleep latency is how long it takes you to get to sleep.

RDI is Respiratory Disturbance Index.

It's notable that no REM was reached. Something kept you from getting to REM stage sleep.

An increase in pulse rate is not uncommon. If a person has a sleep apnea event it can put stress on the body and the heart rate will increase. It could be a brief increase or of longer duration.
