CPAP? on Orange is the New Black

Netflix has a new original series called Orange is the New Black. It's about a woman who has to go to prison. It's not a series for the feint of heart--it's very graphic (full nudity and sex scenes including lesbian sex, language, and violence), a little funny, and fascinating characters. I think it's based on a true story and I heard the woman tell part of her story on a Moth podcast recently.

One of the prison inmates "had a massive heart attack" and now must use a machine when she sleeps. The machine appears to be a portable oxygen concentrator, but she uses it with a CPAP mask and hose (portable oxygen concentrators usually use a small tube with a nasal canula, not a mask and certainly not a CPAP mask). The sound effects sound more like a CPAP than an oxygen concentrator when she's using it, too. I guess the oxygen concentrator machine was more graphic for the show--perhaps they were taking poetic license.

It's an easy read. It is CPAP in the book Its a memoir of a middle class woman whose stupid youthful behavior caught up with her after several years.

Oh, I bet it's a good book. She did a great job telling her story on the Moth podcast.
