Any chance of sub-forums being added?
RE: Any chance of sub-forums being added?
Personally, I prefer the "free-range" approach, but I do make extensive use of the options already provided here such as:
"View posts since last visit"
"View your posts"
"View unanswered posts"
I also make sure to use the "Mark all forums read," before exiting to assure that I will only see the latest posts when I next visit.
Having said that, however, the addition of "tags" would only make an already great site even better.

I prefer the all in one method myself although it does have some problems. The main one being that I had to catch up on all the posts (4 pages of them) over the past weekend. Tagging may be a good solution but by far the success that this forum is having over the others speaks wonders for how it is presently run. I wouldn't want to loose that.

Subdivide!
I am all in favor of tagging. I fully understand the value of browsing and finding something significant.
My concern would be that if there is a newbie section, experienced users might not choose to browse through it. Then the real experts could help out.
I can just see the poor newbies wallowing in their problems without enough suggestions--which is the value of this forum, IMHO. Being rather a newbie myself, I would like to see the strengths continued.

I agree with some of you who feel that the "free for all" is suitable. I LIKE having it all together. The subforums on other sites didn't work for me. Always felt like maybe I was missing something if I didn't check different categories, and if I thought of posting it was always with the hesitant feeling of "maybe this subforum, but maybe the other...". Tagging, ok. Just please don't make it too complicated for us borderline capacity users! We get a lot more participation and a lot more action on our posts here - and I think the format has a lot to do with it. (not to mention the great people...).

Well, it seems that the all-in-one folks are in the majority. I guess since I work with computers, I tend to organize things into folders, sub-folders, etc. It's just the way my brain works.
Anyway, I'm all for the tagging concept. That would help people find specific things when they don't have time to browse throught the whole list.

I see no problem w/cpaptalk.com the way it is other than it would be nice to see the whole friggin country code of *.ru banned because of spam. Who posts and buys equipment from Russia here anyway?
Divide the forum and all you get is forum wars, and all you see is posts "you should post this over on the yoyo group.." and 2-3 of the same posts of someone trying to figure out where to post. TAS perfect example.

i dunno, at least a for sale subforum and a forum for the freeforall you all like would be alright i guess. my original opinion still stands, if i wanna buy some used equipment from somebody i wanna be able to look in just one place to see what's available, i don't wanna have to waste several hours digging up countless threads in search of the proverbial needle in a haystack.

I am still new at this -going on 6 months since diagnosis with sleep apnea. I have enjoyed the personal socializing amosphere of this forum. I have dealt with subforms on other forums- finding they do not have up-to-date information, making them less personal.
I vote no subforms.
