I use distilled water only but still clean my humidifier weekly. I'm not a chemist but heating distilled water over and over must provide at least some opportunity for bacterial growth, if you simply add water daily to what's left in the tank, as I do?
I guess if you rinse out and air dry your water chamber daily, it would be less necessary to clean weekly.
Comment,
I doubt it if air drying the chamber for one day only would dry out all the water. So I have two chambers and dry one at a time for a week, alternately.

If it takes a week for a few drops of water to evaporate, you must live in the Great Dismal Swamp.
