SleepyHead and Mac

Hi,

I want to know if it is possible to install SleepyHead on Mac, if yes is it difficult? Is there something I need to know to do that?

I'm considering to pass from crappy Microsoft computer to a Mac. I know nothing about Macs other that their OS is not a pain in the neck as Windows is.

Have you ever try to use an Excel file from a Windows computer in your Mac an then back to the Windows with 100% compatibility ?

I wonder if I change to Mac I can have incompatibility exchanging files with Windows users.

I f you have Office on both it is normally not a problem.if you are using Numbers on the Mac then yes, there can be some incompatbilities

When you say: "from a Windows computer in your Mac" do you mean you have a Windows virtual disk program like Parallels or you are running Windows within BootCamp on your Mac?

If so, the answer might be different, but if you are simply talking about moving a spreadsheet back and forth between Windows Excel and Mac Excel there should be no problem. Some Windows users with very old PCs may complain that the file won't open when they double-click it. If so, just tell them to open Excel first, then Open and navigate to your file and it will open.

What I need to do is to receive files from people with Office for Windows into my Mac (if I change ) with Office for Mac. I'll open the files and work on it then I need to send them back to the Windows computer owner who send the files to me.

I can't have problems other way it would be impossible to change to Mac for me because I can't get in trouble with those files or making the life hard to those people.

I've enjoyed my transition to Mac from the PC world. This year I purchased a used Mac Mini off ebay from the mid 2010 period (mc270ll/a). It was about $500 and has everything I could want. I have it mounted on the wall behind my 60" TV in my bedroom and use blue tooth keyboard and trackpad to communicate with it. If you own your PC versions of windows and office you can add the program referenced earlier called Parallels and then load your Windows and Office into it. I've had no problems using the MAC versions of the Microsoft Office 11 series of apps to exchange documents and spreadsheets with windows users. Sleepyhead works great under MAC.

If you have an oximeter I would recommend Parallels to allow you to run that software under windows. Which ever mac you get I believe it will be an easy transition. I chose the cheap way to try it out. But I think the MBA (Mac Book Airs) are wonderful laptops. I never use mine away from home so the MacMini works great for me. I can use VNC from my iPad to access the Mac when I'm away from home and have everything I need.

Hey guys you are very kind to give all that info. The straw who is breaking the camels back is Windows 8 I have a windows laptop not old but I'm a little tire of all the blue screens (black should I say )

I know nothing about Mac but if I know where to find the information I would be good to make the transition I'm able to fight with Windows nothing should be worst isn't it?

I don't have a copy of Windows. I only have my copy of Office 10 professional. I was told I could install Windows in the computer but the version of Win 7 is $225 I will not put that money on that.

What about my Linksys router (old but working great ), my 19'' screen and my wireless printer ? I have another photo printer connected direct to my computer ? Am I able to use those things withe the Mac or do I need to buy new ?

True...however when you go up to file...save as...you can save your file as an office document instead of numbers. Works like a champ for me!

Also, if you don't want to shell out for MS Office you may be able to just use LibreOffice. Supports opening/saving excel files (and Word, PowerPoint, etc), and generally works 100% as long as you're not doing anything crazy macro wise.

I use it at work because I run Linux on my workstation instead of the Windows 7 standard corporate image (I'm a professional Linux Sysadmin), and I've yet to have any issues. It also supports Mac.

Of course, just buying Office is the path of least resistance, but it's always good to have options, particularly the free kind.

Hi again, rosacer!

Not sure why you would want to use your standalone screen (monitor) if you get a Mac laptop, but yes if you want to use it as a second screen you can! I ever use our bigscreen Samsung TV as a second screen for my MacBook Pro when we watch streaming movies, etc.

I will probably buy a small screen laptop and my stand alone screen is 19'' which is not huge but big enough for me.
