Not able to sleep

Post by Frederick H » Wed Jun 19, 2013 4:07 pm

I've been struggling to sleep for the last 2 night and Iam at my whit's end. I use a REMstar Plus, it a old CPAP but has been doing the job since 2003 when I started using a CPAP. I put the mask on and start the CPAP, after about 15min its as if I cant breath. I haven't been able to sleep properly for the last 2 evenings. Is there anyone who has had the same experience? apologies for my use of the English language, Iam from South Africa, every little is known about CPAP, although it is becoming increasingly common, for SA suffers to use.

How come you feel like you can't breathe? Does your nose get congested or is it just a general overall feeling of suffocation?
Like not enough oxygen in the air that you do breathe?
What mask do you use?
What is your pressure?
Have you had the machine tested to make sure it is delivering the pressure it is supposed to deliver?

Maybe it is not working properly any more. You need to have it tested to make sure the pressure it producing is correct. There are ways to test it by your self using water. If your pressure is 9 then it should push 9cm of water up a tube.

Also make sure your hose is not leaking and losing pressure.

Respironics has used the term Remstar on every one of their models of cpap/apap machines.
So there are several to choose from.

Your first machine likely looks like this.
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... -cpap.html

Can you tell us more of the model name or the model number?
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machines/cpap ... /1:1::::20:

I have some provider manuals that would explain how to set it up but I need to know the full model name or number to know which one to give you.

Question,

There are good sleep physicians in South Africa. Have you been checked by any of them?

Is the machine the same as the first model? This may be what you need.

If that isn't the machine you ordered can you provide a link or a picture?

That link above doesn't work for me.

I see now that you have System One Remstar in your signature line.
That would be a PR System One Remstar ....model

You can request the provider manual at the above link but you have to be very specific about what you want.

Here are instructions on how to get to the clinical menu for the System One machine...
