I ordered mine today, and they threw in the return insurance for free.

Once I have tried it out I will update with a short review.

When someone gets to try this, please let me know if it "rides up" on your face. I have a Quattro FX that would work fine for me but it keeps sliding up my face and ends up in my eyes and creates lots of leaks, forcing me to re-fit several times a night. With the forehead support on this new one, I wonder if that problem is solved?

(I normally use nasal pillows, but I wanted a FFM for colds/allergies/etc. The FX is NOT it!)

Thanks in advance!

If someone wants to use their insurance to pay for it and thus have their DME supply it....gotta check with them to see if they have it or are willing to get it for you.

I checked with my DME about the AIR as Mike is due for new mask this week. She said they probably wouldn't "special order" it because it's too expensive as were all Resmed products and they're trying and phase all their products out and just use Respironics and other mfrs.. I left a message for the manager to call me on Monday and I will also be checking with Medicare on their rules for a contracted supplier. I'm getting ready for battle if necessary!
I always admire your tireless efforts dealing with Mike's OSA. In this case however I would tell you to save yourself the anger and frustration. Medicare does not dictate what manufacture's a supplier must provide products from. With the Round 2 competitive bid reimbursments going live July 1st many suppliers are looking to cut costs, many are dropping Resmed masks from their offerings.
Thanks for the kind words but you're too late! I heard the same news from Medicare(she was very patient with me) and was told they're getting lots of calls with similar complaints about their DMEs and Resmed. After I calmed down I decided to order the Air from our host since the free return was too good to pass up. If it gives Mike more comfort and better therapy it will be worth it. I'll also post a report, hopefully a good one!

SleepD.,

Do not fear as I took a four hour nap with this mask today and is was wonderful. In the very short time I have been on CPAP, I have acquired five masks. This is by far the most comfortable mask I own and I did not have a problem with the mask riding up my nose or face.

When I say by far: I mean the other masks are not even close. It is so light and you will find that it is not necessary to tighten the straps very much. I have applied a pad-a-cheek pad to the top part that rests on my forehead for greater comfort.

During my four hour nap this afternoon, my leak rate was 3L/min.

Take care,

TheWino

I agree with Thewino

While the mask did move up on my face a slight bit, it was nowhere near enough to bother me or cause any leaks. I woke up for other reasons and shifted the mask at that time.

in my newbie opinion, the headgear adjustments are kind of weird when compared to the Quattro or the Quattro FX.

When you pull the upper straps tighter, it flexes the silicone forehead part to make the upper part of the mask & cushion closer to your nose.

That force seems to cause the lower part of the mask to try to pull away from your face ever so slightly. Which then makes the lower straps feel tighter.

While loose is best, this new headgear system may take some time for folks to figure out a balance for what feels right & works for them.

Dori,
This is going on at the place I work as well. Resmed mask are so expensive that reimbursement does not cover the cost. Unfortunately, Resmed knows they have some of the more popular mask out there and are not willing to budge on the price. The good news is that F&P have come out with some good mask recently and respironics is slowly making some gains as well. We will have to wait and see if enough DME's start pulling back from Resmed if they will budge a little.

If only PR would slightly redesign the damned cushion on the Amara, they could meet or beat the new, more expensive, ResMed Q Air!

Ya listening Respironics?????

Could you be a little more clear? Can you please describe how the new Air cushion is different or alike from the regular Quattro cushion or that of the QFX? From the pictures it seems smaller from nose to chin, than the regular Quattro cushion, and is shaped and designed more like the QFX cushion? It appears much thicker and substantial than the QFX cushion, however. Plus frosted surface texture? What has been your experience?

Lets see if I can answer your questions

I have used the Quattro, the Quattro FX & I used the AIR last night... All of them that I have worn were medium sized.

Our host suggests that if you wear a medium Quattro FX, you may need a large AIR.

Yes, the shape of the new AIR cushion is shaped a lot like the Quattro FX. But there is something new to the shape / construction of it near the bridge of the nose, so that it no longer puts any pressure there.

The mask part of the AIR is about the same size as the Quattro. I held mine together and they are pretty close in overall size... But the AIR has a lot less mass to it. So it looks smaller in the photos. The part from the mask to the forehead piece is about 1/2 inch shorter in length on the AIR than the standard Quattro.

I'm not sure if the cushion on the AIR is any more substantial than what is on the Quattro FX. Yes, it is slightly frosted with a very minimal texture to it... it is so slightly textured that you can barely feel it. I think I read somewhere that the texture is there is help stop leaks.

hope that helps

Dave
