Pro vs Con

Post by ajnitti » Fri Jun 02, 2006 7:05 am

My doctor gave me the option of ordering a new chin strap which looks like a high school wrestlers head gear or pay for a full face mask which would be my third mask since 5/17/06. I love my new resmed swift but i'm worried with the new chin strap gear it would make it more uncomfortable and in regards to the full face mask $$$$ well after buying two mask already money is the issue..any helpful advice

Have you tried tape? It works great for many people and allows you the luxury of using any type of mask you want. If it's something you're comfortable trying, here's a link to a previous discussion:

Do I use a chin strap with the tape?

You don't need a chinstrap anymore if you use tape.

Here is a link to the FAQ on Taping and there are numerous threads on taping that should be helpful.

Taping FAQ

and here is a link to lonnnnnnng thread discussing an alternative

Dental Adhesive & Poligrip Strips

I use both and they work. When I get tired of one I use the other. I did not like chinstraps and besides that, they didn't work.

I use the Swift and taping/poligrips work fine.

I tend to do better with a homemade chinstrap anyway, but still need tape. I found that for me anyway a chinstrap alone won't do it. I have just tied the legs of a pair of stockings under my chin and tied on the top of my head and mouth taped. For me it is helpful to keep the jaw from totally dropping even when taping. But I was a heavy mouth breather so maybe I am unique.

If insurance is paying I would go full face and make my own chinstrap.
I found the commerical ones annoying to my ears and slip out of place
