Oxygen in addition to CPAP
Oxygen in addition to CPAP
I'm looking for a portable oxygen concentrator that will work with my CPAP. I don't want to use tanks or a heavy, noisy home unit. Your help will be appreciated.

Re: Oxygen in addition to CPAP
Many portables use pulsed output, these are NOT suitable for use for XPAP. Respironics newer home units use less power and are quieter than the old design, still better to keep it in the next room up to 50 feet away. I've had the old and new, the new is a good option. Using a portable isn't cost effective, small and lightweight is handy, but comes with shorter lifespands and higher costs per hour. Jim

all home units are not noisy. my wife has one that we rent from the dme. it literally sits at the foot of the bed and bothers no one.

Re: Oxygen in addition to CPAP
I like machine noise, what I don't like is added heat, that's why I moved my O2 unit, I run the window a/c almost year around at 63 degrees. Jimgreatunclebill wrote:all home units are not noisy. my wife has one that we rent from the dme. it literally sits at the foot of the bed and bothers no one.
If you need O2 while on the move, you really need both kinds, I have bottles too, but don't use them.

There are portable concentrators available for using on-the-go, but they are expensive and not all insurances will cover them without a good reason. (Some won't cover even with a good reason!)Goofproof wrote:

Re: Oxygen in addition to CPAP
To the best of my current knowledge the maximum output capability of all current portable concentrators in continuous mode is 3L. You have to have continuous mode to use an 02 concentrator w/a PAP. These portable concentrators run about $2,000 and above. A home concentrator runs around $700 and are long-lived. Sitting them on a piece of carpet helps to reduce any sound. The newer models are considerably quieter than the older models. I keep mine on a piece of carpet (we have hardwood floors) in the extra bedroom adjacent to our bedroom. Hubby drilled a small hole thru the wall to run the tubing thru to our bedroom and my VPAP Auto.
