Mirage Quattro

hyperlexis:
My spouse crafted a gentle Velcro strap for under my chin which gently links and secures the two lower mandibular straps and prevents that 'riding up' phenomenon peculiar to the QFX. Have gone with that since March 3 and can't recall even one night that was less than stellar.
For most of my adult life I did not know the feeling of going to sleep and not awakening until morning. Ever since that glorious night of 3/3, EVERY sleep has begun between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. (depending, of course, on the evening's activities) and the earliest I've awakened has been 5:52 a.m. Ironically, that was today when some idiot misdialed his phone and insisted that I was the one he was calling. Even though p-ed off, I fell back asleep until 7:30. Between 8:30 and 11:30 I then completed a 31-mile round-trip bike ride. The old me (as it is I'm six days short of 63) could never have done that and then gone bowling and done yard work.

Re: Mirage Quattro
I have gotten so desparate I changed settings on the air pressure on my machine so I could try and tolerate at least some use from my mask. I learned how to get into my Bi-pap program and change things. I even got a dental device because I am sick of fart noises, leakage, pain and suffering with my mask. How many cpaps are being used as door holders because this technology has not caught with differing human face anatomy? There is a company with affiliates in Australia that has custom fit masks. Is cost the factor is discouraging custom fit masks? People wear custom fit orthotics and artificial limbs. There is not one size fits all for those problems. I have custom fit orthotics. They last ten yearss.

I had the same problems during my brief use of the MQ. The gigantic blasts of air drove both my wife and me nuts. As I stated in another post on here, the Quattro FX beats the pants off Mirage Quattro every time out. With the strap my wife made I have nearly no problems of air leakage.

Re: Mirage Quattro
I slept with the QFX last night and mostly went fine, only a few wake ups due to leaks. A super comfortable mask, but for me with movement (into the pillows) can dislodge the mask. The Quattro has the massive forehead support and larger cushion, so it stays put better. The V2 even more so. If I just slept on my back or side, without any movement, the QFX would be ideal.DEXSUZ wrote:hyperlexis:

It goes to prove that the mask manufacturers really need more input for users -- the fact your wife had to jerry rig a chin strap to keep the QFX from riding up says it all. Your wife should run to the patent office!

I think you need some serious counseling from a better sleep DME supplier. You are paying for that service and no one should have to go through such problems to have a well fitting mask -- even with higher pressures. You tampering with your bipap pressures really should be discussed with your treater.
Please post updates about your treatment here -- it could help others. Good luck!

Re: Mirage Quattro
I would seriously consider trying that strap, but, alas, they STILL don't make the QFX in an extra small.

Re: Mirage Quattro
I had a horrible night last night. I slept may three hours. The longest I slept was about an hour then I awoke and listened to audio book. Today I will not sleep because I took Adderall. Now I have such disordered sleep my shrink says it is narcolepsy, but I think it is the apnea. I stopped sleeping well during Vietnam. So for over 40 years I have suffered poor sleep. I thought it was normal to take hours to wake up in the morning. Getting fatter and old is not helping. I tried total facemask. What a joke.

Re: Mirage Quattro
The Quattro FX just moved too darn much for me, I tried a chin strap, but that made my TMJ worse.
If I could make a forehead piece for the Quattro FX, it might be right ..
So the quattro is the perfect mask for me right now. it keeps my leaks at a minimum even through my active tossing and turning...
I've got my eye on the new Resmed & F & P FFM's that have been talked about ....

Re: Mirage Quattro
Folks... thanks for the responses. I have been offline chasing a rascal for several days and finally caught him. I see this debate has started a "I hate the Quattro" or "don't talk trash about my Quattro". Everyone loves "their" mask and hates others. I have yet to get the mask from my DME... so I hope to get it today. The reason I selected the Quattro is:
- after researching... if I could ever get a full face mask to work for me, it appears to be the Quattro.
- It is probably the most popular full face mask on the market. I know there is a lot of love-hate relationships with the mask. I have commented before how that amazes me. I figure it's a great mask if you can TAME it.... so I'm up for the challenge.

Sheriff, to convince a jury you need to show ResScan graphs that the Leaks from this mask are low.
Or, something like this over 60 days:

Some masks are like dogs; gotta show them who's boss; and treat them with kindness and praise.
Others are more like cats; as long as you're gentle, they can trust you and vice-versa.

Nice numbers. A LOT of people on here would like to have those.
With my QFX I'm avoiding looking at all the stats. What I go by is simply how I feel after awakening in the morning and that's been wonderful since my first full night on March 3. My biggest hassle used to be getting the precise strap (temple and mandibular) settings and once I started fidgeting with them I was road kill. I finally tamed my mind and can fall asleep even if there's some irritation or pinching. The next morning I make minor moves of perhaps 1/8th inch and leave 'em be.
I can't speak for everyone or even anyone else but I get to be a head case when I study numbers. My mind just spins and that makes nodding off a whole lot more difficult than it should be.
