Mirage Quattro
There's an active thread about mask switching that has caught my fancy. I normally cannot wear a full face mask because of the bump on my nose (I would get leaks under my eyes). I noticed I may get the Mirage Quattro to "go over" the bump and seal above the bump. I also like the adjustable forehead. I tried a full face mask early on, but I can't remember which one it was and Apria's records only go as far back as 2011... so they can't tell me which one I tried. Anyway, I have a few "miles" left on my current trusty Fitlife Total mask, so I'll have it on the bed stand if I decide to drop-kick the Mirage Quattro into the next county... in the middle of the night. I also got a few nasal pads, but I'm wondering if they will interfere with the seal.
Any help with the Quattro when it comes in will be appreciated.

Dang it... its like lookin' at a new truck with all the bells and whistles... then lookin' at my trusty, beat-up Dodge.... then lookin' at the new one (with the salesman smiling and showing me all the features).... then lookin' at my ole' Dodge....

I've been using the quattro for many, many years now.
It was OK before I started using mask liners but with them it's really been great.
I NOW use one that is actually smaller than the one their fitting guide suggests. Had the recommended size for a few years but the smaller one seems not to move around so much.
I've used it with CPAP, Bi-PAP and now ASV and counldn't ask for more except more durable straps which tend to loose their stretch within 45 days or so which forces me to tighten the mask more than I like to.

What kind of liners do you use? Padacheek?Tom W wrote:I've been using the quattro for many, many years now.

I used a Pad-a-Cheek for many months before I retired it.
I tend to have an oily face so I switched to REMZZZ which I use for 4 nights before tossing them. I didn't like having to wash the Pad-a-Cheek in the middle of the week.
Of course having two and alternating them would solve that problem.
Either is fine but if you get up in the middle of the night the Pad-a-Cheek is easier to but back on when it's dark and you're half asleep.
I sleep through the night so it's a non-issue for me.

Re: Mirage Quattro
I have dent in the upper part of my nose, just the opposite of your bump. But probably causes the same leak issue but in reverse.
I've been using the Quattro for about 8 months now..... Prior to pad-a-cheek, I had leaks near the eye.... I
Eye leaks are gone since I added Pad-a-cheek to the mask.
Every so often, I'll get some face farts near my cheeks or chin... They are typically caused by not adjusting the headgear right after swapping liners or overadjusting the forehead knob
I have 2 pad-a-cheek liners that are on a 4-5 day cleaning rotation.

Re: Mirage Quattro
The Quattro is pretty much the FFM gold standard -- very very comfortable, flexible cushion, excellent headgear/quick clips, extremely quiet vent, easily adjustable, and very good with leaks -- however pretty big, bulky and ugly. And disassembly into many small parts can be very tedious for full cleaning. However definitely do try it. It may work perfectly for you. Also, as discussed here, the brand new, lighter Quattro Air FFM is being released in the near future and looks like a big step forward with far fewer parts.

Funny you say this... Over the years it seems that the Quattro is very popular, but I have heard boat-loads full of complaints. More folks use it so more folks will complain could be the explanation for this.hyperlexis wrote:The Quattro is pretty much the FFM gold standard -- very very comfortable, flexible cushion, excellent headgear/quick clips, extremely quiet vent, easily adjustable, and very good with leaks -- however pretty big, bulky and ugly. Re: Mirage Quattro
I'd tend to disagree with those of you who say the Mirage Quattro is the Cadillac of full-face masks. I began my CPAP days with it and changed to the Quattro FX which is much lighter, makes fewer ghastly fart-like noises, and doesn't have that forehead adjustment gizmo. My noise is a straight-line English/Swedish beak which causes no problems with the FX. As well, my wife also crafted a Velcro chin strap that allows me to use less tension on the horizontal temple and mandibular straps.
To make sure, I just went upstairs and plopped the FX on me: the mask doesn't even touch the bridge.
Some of you QM aficianados may want to give the Q-FX a shot!

Re: Mirage Quattro
I LIKE the screw adjustable forehead gear, and the quick release clips on the bottom straps of the Mirage Quattro ...
I just started using the "Boomerang Gel Pad" because the bridge of my nose was sore ... Only been using it for almost a week, the verdict is still out!
I have been using a size medium for the last nine months ... Recently checked the size template, and I definitely need the Large! I ordered it and it is sitting at home waiting for me to get there ... May be why my big nose has been unhappy!

I have -- and the QFX is a great mask. Extremely comfortable and same quiet vent on it as the regular Quattro. It's lighter and looks better too. Plus, no forehead bar which is great for glasses. However.... if you move around a lot at night/sleep on your stomach, the QFX can become dislodged or 'ride up' and start leaking far easier than the Quattro and some other FFMs, which can wake one up. Also, some people have complained about the cushion popping out of the thin groove it sits in (no clip retainer like other ResMed designs).
I switched to the Hans Rudolph V2 from the QFX and found it stays put and leak free far, far better than the QFX. The V2 has a much tighter fit, and its vent is noisier, but its built like a tank, very flexible, and even with movement, very leak resistant. Not as comfy as the QFX (until it breaks in), however.
But come to think of it I'll use the QFX tonight just to mix things up. My numbers actually do get better when using the Quattro or QFX for some reason. Likely because they are so comfortable.
If you like the QFX that is great. In my experience, I wanted to love it, I just found its older, bulkier sibling, the Quattro performed slightly better. (And I never had the noise problem you mentioned). It's all about people trying different masks until they find a good one(s). Like having different pairs of shoes.

Re: Mirage Quattro
I have a love-hate relationship with my Quattro. It's been the mask I use for last year or so, I just can't get myself back into nasal pillows--the cartilage at my septum has become sensitive for some reason.
See my Taming the Mirage Quattro tips in my blog link below. For the most part it's OK. The Padacheek liner helps a lot. I have two so I always have a clean and dry one to use.
I sleep on my side and I can quickly quell any leaks by just burrowing my head into the pillow. But I have this nasty hip pain that wakes me in the early morning, and I need to sleep on my back for a while, but that's when the big leaks and face farts start. And I can't use Padacheek's Anti-Leak strap--that really causes me jaw and tooth pain. Sometimes I put a pillow on my chest and use it to gently hold the Quattro in place.

Re: Mirage Quattro
Once I got the Quattro "tamed", I've really enjoyed it. I started with a large, which was just too big, went to a medium and it's fine I have it adjusted so it barely touches my nose and it seals fine and leaves no marks.
That material the headgear is made from does sort of "relax" during the night so I usually wake up and have to snug the lower straps down. The upper straps are barely tight and the forehead pads touch very lightly.
I also like the FX, we started with that one during titration, but it rides up on my face and leaks. I may get one and trying the under-the-chin strap trick to keep it down.
